The Learning Curve

The Learning Curve

The Learning Curve is a section of ThePRP dedicated to up and coming talented artists. We hear countless new bands each week and as such, we will be showcasing the cream of the crop here in this section. Updated regularly *cough*, a variety of bands will always be on display here for those who are looking for something new and fresh.

Day Without Dawn
Official Website:
www.daywithoutdawn.com
Label:
Independent
Location:
Keyport, NJ
Similar To:
The Postman Syndrome

Audio:
"Inquisition"
"The Plea

Day Without Dawn:
After some significant line-up retooling, The Postman Syndrome saw fit to change their name and thus Day Without Dawn was born. An eclectic outfit who treat progressive metal and melodic emotion with equal respect, this band eschew the trends in favor of their own far more complicated muse.

Official Website:
www.genghistron.com
Label:
Crucial Blast
Location:
Poughkeepsie, NY
Similar To:
Between The Buried And Me, Atari Teenage Riot

Audio:
"Chapels"
"Iron Walls"

Genghis Tron
Genghis Tron:
The inclusion of the word Tron in the bands name is no odd coincidence, for nearly all of what Genghis Tron do is electronically augmented. Where the bands prowess comes into play though is their combining of these synthetic drones, blips and beats with ruthless blasts of extreme tech metal, making for a pairing akin to the Master Control Program unleashing a nuclear bomb.

Baroness
Official Website:
www.yourbaroness.com
Label:
Hyper Realist
Location:
Savannah, GA
Similar To:
Russian Circles, Mastodon, Isis

Audio:
"Red Sky"
"Rise"

Baroness:
Pummeling progressive brutality, heavy on both instrumental atmospherics and sludgy sonic violence. Moments of beauty and moments of savagery intersect to create twisted pieces of musical contrast not soon to be forgotten, clearly Baroness are in command of their instruments.

Official Website:
www.myspace.com/eastofthewall
Label:
Independent
Location:
New Brunswick, NJ
Similar To:
Postman Syndrome, Russian Circles, Mogwai

Audio:
"I"
"II"

East Of The Wall
East Of The Wall:
An enchantingly beautiful instrumental offshoot from the Postman Syndrome camp, East Of The Wall encompass many things, but astute musicianship and stunning instrumental ability are their cornerstones. Often bleak, yet littered with moments of faint hope and longing, physical escape soon becomes unnecessary with such a rich auditory journey on hand.

Sikth
Official Website:
www.sikth.com
Label:
Bieler Bros.
Location:
London, UK
Similar To:
Mudvayne, Gizmachi

Audio:
"Bland Street Bloom"
"Flogging The Horses"

Sikth:
If you've yet to hear of Sikth then you probably live outside the UK. However, with the impending stateside release of their new album "Death Of A Dead Day", this is likely to change as the bands savage mix of technical prowess and uncaged infectious metal will soon spill out all across North American shores. Highly energized and as recklessly dangerous as a crackhead behind the controls of a tank, hurricanes won't be the only thing leaving a mess for the yanks to clean up this year.
