PRP: Thanks for your time.
Jennifer: Thank YOU for your time and excellent site!
PRP: Thanks once again. So... I'll just think in the questions as we speak.....I hope you don't mind.
Jennifer: No. Shoot!
PRP: Well, let's just start with the usual question: how was SPiNE formed?
Jennifer: SPiNE started back in late 92 - early 93, and had various members and changes but, then released the "TRUTH" demo and they toured and even played with Korn at one of the Milwaulkee (sp) Metal Fest in Chicago.
PRP: Wow! Were you in the band since it's start?
Jennifer: No. I was in a band called Open Defiance. Johnny III and myself are the newest members of the band. I've been in the band for around a year.
PRP: I see. Hmmm, who are SPiNE's members? Like, name and instrument.
Jennifer: Mike Bossier - guitars and samples / Mike Spiers - drums and discussion / Sean G - vocals / Johnny III - vocals / Jennifer - bass and vocals.
PRP: Cool. Why you decided to play bass? Anyone inspired you?
Jennifer: Bass is and can be so heavy, funky, and moving. Cliff Burton is my BIGGEST inspiration as well as Flea. Biohazard is a huge inspiration as well. That's why I wanted to play it.
PRP: You think that any of those bands (Old Metallica, R.H.C.P. and Biohazard) are influences in Spine's sound?
Jennifer: In a way yes. Those bands are bands that we listened to and they also helped pave the way for us and other heavier bands today.
PRP: I see. Hmmmm, any material released?
Jennifer: "The Dirty Sanchez" was released in march of this year (1999). TDS is SPiNE's first CD to date.
PRP: No demo tapes before that?
Jennifer: Sorry. Yes there are. The first demo was called "TRUTH" The 2nd demo was a 10 song demo called "GONER". Then we have our new 20 song CD, "The Dirty Sanchez".
PRP: Twenty songs? Wow, that's a lot!
Jennifer: Yeah, tell me about! We have our own studio, and before we knew it, we had 20 songs. We could have recorded even more too!
PRP: Well, I know you're new in the band, but do you have any idea how the old members got this name, SPiNE?
Jennifer: I think they just had a brainstorm and were like: "'SPiNE'! Yeah.. that's cool." So, they got that shit trademarked QUICK.
PRP: Cool! Hmmmm....how would you describe your band's sound to someone who has never heard you?
Jennifer: I would have to say that if you like bands like Rage Against The Machine & Incubus, then you'll just might like SPiNE. You have to check it out for yourself though.
PRP: I'd have to agree. I downloaded that mp3 of X-something and i thought it was really great. Congratulations.
Jennifer: Yup. X-Generation. Thank you so much!
PRP: Hmmm....how does it feel to be the only woman in the band? Is it hard?
Jennifer: It's not hard at all. The guys have nothing but the upmost respect for me, as I do for them.
PRP: Do the fans say lots of shit they shouldn't in shows? Hehehe.
Jennifer: Shows are kinda nutz but, it's all good!
PRP: Hehehe. Who maintains SPiNE's website?
Jennifer: I do.
PRP: Your site is very well done. You got skillz.
Jennifer: Thank you very much! I'm glad that you enjoy it!
PRP: I enjoy it a lot. Anyway, where's SPiNE from?
Jennifer: SPiNE is a Washington, DC /Maryland based band. Two of us are from the DC area and the three others reside in MD (Maryland).
PRP: Forgive my ignorance, but is Maryland near the DC Area? Cause if not, how practices happen?
Jennifer: Yes. Maryland, Washington, DC and Northern Virginia are all by each other. It takes me near 45 minutes to get to practice. I live the further than anyone from practice.
PRP: I see. That's some time.
Jennifer: Tell me about it! But, I love it! It's worthwhile.
PRP: Heheheh, you can listen to TDS and catch the music notes during that time.
Jennifer: Yes! Hehehehe.
PRP: Hehehe. BTW, who gave that name to the cd? That name is kinda funny and aggressive at the same time, hehehehe. I loved it.
Jennifer: Great. I'm glad you did. One of our singers came in with the drawing of the girl (who is NOT me) with the mustache and we were laughing so hard, and then "The Dirty Sanchez" was born. It's a concept album as well with a spoken word at the end to outline the story of "The Dirty Sanchez". All the songs are in order telling a story of a man's life.
PRP: Oh, so the album is like a story of someone? Like an album-book. Something like Fear Factory's "Obsolete"?
Jennifer: Yes! An album-book is great word!
PRP: That's cool. How's the metal scene there in Maryland, or DC Area, or Northern Virginia, or anything.... hehehe?
Jennifer: There's a growing scene here in the DC area as well as the Baltimore, Maryland area. Some EXCELLENT talent! Some great heavy bands here.
PRP: Any band I should check out?
Jennifer: I'm sure you know Nothingface.
PRP: Oh, I sure do!
Jennifer: They are from Maryland, and they are just amazing!
PRP: You know them?
Jennifer: Yes, I know Matt. He's a good guy. We've played with them before.
PRP: Hehehe, I'm doing ANYTHING to get their demo cd. I want it so much.
Jennifer: Oh, sure. I can hook you up with that.
PRP: You have it?
Jennifer: Yes. I have all of their shit. They are one of my favorite bands on the PLANET. Send me your address later (via e-mail) and I'll send you a copy.
PRP: My God! Jennifer, I owe you the world
Jennifer: Yeah. E-mail me later with your address. Please, no sweat at all. I'm here to help!
PRP: So am I.
Jennifer: Great!
PRP: What does SPiNE do to spread themselves from the other bands in their scene?
Jennifer: What's great about SPiNE is that people hear us and are like: "I can't quite compare you to any other band." Live, we are off da hook, and we just go all out and give our 110%. Plus, there are really different types of heavy bands here in the Dc/MD area, so we do hold our own ground.
PRP: Hehehe, you should tour Brazil!
Jennifer: I would love to, and we plan to tour everywhere!
PRP: Hehehe, seeing SPiNE Live would be a dream. You know Sev?
Jennifer: Yes. In fact, I talked to Eddie Fam (their manager) the other day on the phone.
PRP: I like them a lot.
Jennifer: We've played with them before. They are really blowing up. I'm happy for them. In fact, it was always us, Nothingface and Sev.
PRP: They got signed or something?
Jennifer: I don't think they are signed yet, but I wouldn't be surprised.
PRP: Me neither.
Jennifer: You should interview them.
PRP: I should definitely interview them. I'll e-mail them a.s.a.p.
Jennifer: Very good.
PRP: Is TDS an independent release?
Jennifer: Yes it is... for now.
PRP: Hmmm, was SPiNE ever approached by any record label?
Jennifer: Yes. SPiNE has been approached by labels in the past and present.
PRP: Can you name the labels?
Jennifer: One of the past labels was "Revelation". That was before I was in the band. Right now, I can't release the name of the label that has approached us recently.
PRP: Ok, no problem.
Jennifer: Hopefully in the future I can e-mail you with good news though.
PRP: I hope so. Have you ever wrote lyrics to the band?
Jennifer: I've had input in some of the lyrics. I would love to do a one-off where I rap and sing in a song. Live, we do Shit Kickers from House of Pain, and I put the bass down and rap.
PRP: I see. Hmmm, best underground band out there, in your opinion?
Jennifer: Right now? Damn, there are so many. Dog Fashion Disco is excellent. Rebel Amish Radio is great too.
PRP: Dog Fashion Disco's amazing. I'll interview them soon. I don't know Rebel Amish Radio though.
Jennifer: They are different, but really good. Eastcide is great too! They are one of my personal favorites .
PRP: I recently put online an Eastcide interview, and I'm expecting their cd in my mail, to be reviewed.
Jennifer: Good, they will send it to you. Those guys are great. They SHOULD be signed.
PRP: I agree. As should SPiNE. Really, X-Generation is intense.
Jennifer: That's right, damnit! Thank you. And it's only the beginning.
PRP: All Time Favorite Band? Is it Nothingface?
Jennifer: Biohazard. Just saw them with ICP, and they were amazing. Second is Nothingface.
PRP: Most people are answering SlipKnot now. I love Biohazard to, although Nothingface is much better in my opinion.
Jennifer: SlipKnot is great. I got the CD and it's something else, but Biohazard is the shit for me.
PRP: Slipknot is amazing. Well, how was the last show you made?
Jennifer: Oh shit! It was off the hook. It was at the Metro Cafe in Washington, DC and it was great! Love the club. No one broke anything so that's good. One of the last times we played there someone broke their ankle in the pit, which sucked.
PRP: Wow, that's bad! And how was the last show you went as a viewer?
Jennifer: The last show I went to was 4 days ago. Biohazard, Twiztid and Insane Clown Posse.
PRP: Dope. That show must've kicked ass.
Jennifer: It was an excellent show. Biohazard was the shit! Twiztid was great and ICP played for almost 2 hours! It was the 1st date of their tour (ICP's). Bring a towel to an ICP show!.
PRP: Here's a question I did like 2 or 3 times to other bands, but I love it so much that I'm doing it again! Have you ever cried while watching Oprah?
Jennifer: Yes, I have. It was when they had a special on the Littleton Tragedy. The special she did focused on the families and not the rest of it.
PRP: Damn, that was some tragedy. I was shocked when I heard about that.
Jennifer: It was quite moving. I hated how most of the media trashed music for what happened.
PRP: True. Every tragedy that happens, they blame Marilyn Manson. Now Rammstein is being blamed for everything as well.
Jennifer: Yeah. That's such bullshit. I'm not even gonna GO there! That's a great question!
PRP: Hehehe, wookubus told me to do to Skip of Downinside when I interviewed him, and i thought it was genious. Anyway: currently, how many SPiNE's members are single?
Jennifer: Just one. Our drummer, so ladies, LISTEN UP!
PRP: Cool. My mind is blank now! Any last comments? That interview was kinda big.
Jennifer: Thank you so much for taking your time out and doing this interview. You kick ass and your site kicks ass for supporting the underground scene. Much respect to ALL bands out their kicking their shit. I hope the interview was cool.
PRP: I thank you for your time, and the interview was tight, don't worry. Thanks for the nice words as well.
Jennifer: Let me know if I can do anything for you or your site. Don't forget to e-mail me your address so I can send you nothingface's CD.
PRP: Don't worry. Keep in touch! Take care.
Jennifer: Sure. See you.
