PRP: So, how did LPS get together?
Matt: Ian and I went to high school together but never talked. We then had a COMM 2 class in college together, and he mentioned he played drums. I said "Let's start a band." He said ok.
PRP: And the others?
Matt: Then we ran into this kid, Mike, who played guitar. And this kid in our COMM 2 class gave us this number of a kid named Carl, who played bass. So we all got together everyday in the summer and jammed. Carl wanted to be more punk, and was dissatisfied with the rapcore feel, so he left. Then, Mike, Ian and I all practiced together for the rest of the summer, until september where we ran into Brent, in my motion picture appreciation class. He came to the next practice and then, BAM!, we had two guitar players. Brent knew this kid, Justin, who played bass, and he came to the next practice along with Brian, who Ian & I met in biology class. There you had the line up of LPS for around 10 months. After creative problems with Mike (he was too metal), we asked him to leave, bringing us to where we are now.
PRP: Wow. Quite a story.
Matt: Yeah, it's way to long. But that's how it is.
PRP: How did you come to the name Local Porn Star?
Matt: Well, one day, a long time before the band, I was watching TV and this commercial came up about supporting your local fire fighters union or whatever, and I was like: "Yeah! Next thing you know, you'll see: 'support our local porn star'" That's why we are local porn star, instead of local porn stars. It just stuck for some reason.
PRP: Sweet. How did you guys decide on 2 singers instead of just one?
Matt: At first, it was just me, but I always wanted a more hip-hop feel to the vocals, seeing i'm so white. So we wanted a real rapper also, so we had to search, and we found Brian, who is incredible and brings rue hip-hop merit to the vocals.
PRP: Did you ever try out turn tables?
Matt: Yeah. Ian's brother is part of a hip-hop crew and spins. He played with us a few times. But we decided to go against the trend and be original sort of.
PRP: Original is always best. Anyway....have you released a demo or record or anything of that sort? Or do you plan to?
Matt: We have releases a demo, called Hard, Raw, Ride, and plan on releasing a full length cd to be entitled "Sausage Factor", as soon as we get the funds.
PRP: Awesome. What's the situation with your label, Bub Records(i think that's it).
Matt: BUB basically lied to us and said they had more money than they did. Our contract officially is in violation, today, sunday, and we will cancel it on monday.
PRP: Do you have any plans to sign with another label anytime soon?
Matt: We are prepared to sign with any label that can offer us security in ownership of our songs and a quality distro deal.
PRP: ...and not fuck you over.
Matt: Exactly.
PRP: Ok, now onto all of our favorite subject: women. A few of your songs are about women who weren't to good to you. Who were they?
Matt: Well, Ode To A Whore was about my girlfriend's former best friend, who seduced me into fucking her. Well, it was my fault too, but it's about her.
PRP: What about I Failed?
Matt: I Failed is about two things: my girlfriend, how nothing was ever good enough for her at one time, and then, people in general who never give you props.
PRP: Are the band members currently single?
Matt: 3 no, 2 yes.
PRP: Where do your influences come from?
Matt: Guitar - Tool, Dave Mathhews Band, Stavesacre, and basically metal and hardcore. Bass - Incubus and anything funky, jazzy, and difficult to play. Drums - Van Halen, Dave Mathhews band, Rush, metal and hardcore. My Vocals - Old School gangsta rap. Brian's Vocals - Bone Thugs N'Harmony & Fu-Schnikens.
PRP: Wow, that's a lot of diversity.
Matt: Well, we try not to be your average rapcore band.
PRP: Good job at that. Name one word off the top of your head.
Matt: Euphoric. Don't know if I spelled it right.
PRP: And your favorite website would be....?
Matt: Besides ours, of course, band site would be Linea 77's website. Other site, WrestlingInsiders.com.
PRP: So I take it you like wrestling?
Matt: I'm a crazed fan. Have seen WCW, WWF and ECW in person.
PRP: What do you think of (Brett or Owen, can't remember which one) Hart falling down from that wire a couple of weeks ago?
Matt: It was Owen. I think that it was horrible. I agreed that wrestling got stupid with stunts like that. Although WCW's sting was the first to repeal from the ceiling overall, they are less retarded than WWF, and I prefer it of WWF. ECW is my favorite though.
PRP: Who's your favorite wrestler?
Matt: At wrestling, mic skills, or overall?
PRP: Well, why don't you tell me all three?
Matt: Wrestling skills, I'd have to say Rod Van Dam (ECW), mic skills, The Rock (WWF). Overall, Chris Jericho (WCW).
PRP: Total change of subject: what's in your CD rotation right now?
Matt: In my car, I got a few: Linea 77, Order By Chaos, DMX, The Roots, Eminem, Downset, System Of A Down, the new Vanilla ice, Puddin' Hogs, Chicago's Greatest Hits, Wyclef (the Carnival), AFI and Weezer.
PRP: How's the Florida music scene?
Matt: The scene blows, alothough we have some of the greatest bands I've ever heard. Examples: In Endo, OBC, Puddin' Hogs, Nonpoint, etc. South Florida is good though.
PRP: Well, North Florida brought out Limp Bizkit, who we all know... and I hate to say it, but I think they sold out.
Matt: Well, it's apparent that they have commercialized themselves. But J-ville has bands like OBC, who don't get 1/100 the respect they deserve.
PRP: Yeah, I've seen OBC live. They're great.
Matt: OBC is incredible.
PRP: You play shows with them a lot?
Matt: We have played a good amount, we're in the process of booking an east coast tour with them for august.
PRP: Sweet. Hopefully, I'll catch it. Who's your all time favorite band.
Matt: Ever, is Incubus.
PRP: They're awesome, and even more original.
Matt: Well, I've heard comparisons with Mr. Bungle, but they're true musicians, and know how to arrange music.
PRP: Changing the subject, do you like video games?
Matt: Yeah.
PRP: I noticed on your page, you have a Slig. what's up with that?
Matt: Love odd world. Beat the game, which i might add, is the longest game in the fucking world.
PRP: Haha. Well my mind is racing with even more pointless questions, but, I'm gonna rap this up. Anything you'd like to say?
Matt: I just hope we get a chance to record our songs professionally and get the public a chance to make us or break us.
PRP: Ok. Well, thanks Matt. Hope to see you when you catch a break!
Matt: Me too. Thanks
