PRP: The most annoying question to start things off, how did you guys first get together?
BC: The Recycler.. It's a local paper with all kinds of info.. That's where I met Wes. Then we played shows with Mark and Jerred's band in LA.. We were all unhappy, so we merged.
PRP: Were there any other bands you guys came from before joining (hed)?
BC: That's a secret..
PRP: The most obvious change on this album is the bands name change, first "(hed)", then "(hed)pe" followed by "(hed)p.e." and now
"(hed) planet earth", what's the reasoning behind the changes?
BC: Ahh, we just want to be hed. We are still
hed p.e. Not hed Planet Earth...
PRP: During the recording process of this album, you guys recorded in two different studios, did the change of environments affect the sound of the songs?
BC: A bit, we did basic tracks down in the dirty south... But we didn't do it for cultural changes, it's just that the studio in Oxford was cheap and in a great place..
Machine wanted to go back to his studio for vocals cuz that's where he likes to do vocals. Then, mixing of course is always usually at a mixing studio...
PRP: Having toured with a lot of the current big name acts when they were relatively small, you guys have still stayed underground and not achieved such an overblown level of success, do you feel as though you got a raw deal?
BC: Not at all.. We built a great following from touring so much on the first record.. Now, we keep building by playing great shows and having the marketing power
Jive didn't have on the first record..
PRP: The first album was a lot darker lyrically and musically while the new album feels more playful and confident, do you think the fact that the bulk of the album was written on the tour bus had any influence on this?
BC: For sure.. A lot more lyrics about touring life.. Also, we just wanted to make good songs this album as opposed to more epic style songs.
PRP: Does Product know how to operate a shower?
BC: Sure. Once per week.
PRP: You guys have had quite a bad rep for your consumption of intoxicating substances on your past tours, are you guys still getting crazy out on the road or have you guys slowed down this time around?
BC: No drugs anymore.. I mean, we were fuckups in the past without a doubt.. Now, we party after the show with Coors Light and some JD but the consumption as a whole has dropped considerably.
PRP: Have you ever once pissed on any of your bandmates?
BC: Yes. Wes invented that one... Wes pisses on stage occasionally.. Not on me anymore. He knows he'll get an ass kickin.
PRP: How does it feel hitting the road opening for bands who once opened for you, I.E.
Papa Roach?
BC: Feels great. I am happy for those guys.. They have struggled for a while now and their success is great for them and can only help us.
PRP: Have you ever jerked off wearing a handpuppet?
BC: Nice question Wook. No. Have you jerked off looking at a pic of my asshole?
PRP: With this album you guys have taken a big step into a new direction with new images, such as Jahreds piercings and contacts along with the decision to use new names for example, no more
M.C.U.D. and with DJ Product now going by DJ Product © 1969, etc., do you feel that a reinvention of the band was necessary, or is this just part of the constant evolution?
BC: Nah, we just do shit like that for fun. Because we can.. It's our record. Why not have a bit of fun with our names..
PRP: In the first album's cover, there was a picture of a room filled with pornography, where and what the hell was it?
BC: That was at Wes' house in his studio room.. We just put a bunch of porn all over the walls for the photo..
PRP: East Bay Ray of Dead Kennedy's fame guested on the track
"Waiting To Die", how did this collaboration take place?
BC: We think Jello gave us his number as a joke. But, it worked out cuz he rules it..
PRP: The new album was leaked to the net in mp3 format around a month or two in advance, how do you feel about this and regarding mp3's in general?
BC: All good. If the record sucked, then I would've been worried. But, since it doesn't, it created more buzz.
PRP: Former band member, Tim Dog/TiLo is now in the commercially successful
Methods Of Mayhem, how do you feel about the success he's attained and do you guys still talk?
BC: Commercially Successful? Not sure I understand that one.. We spoke occasionally before their record came out but since then, I've not heard from him or Tommy.. Tim is a great guy though and I wish him success. He has a great personality for a rockstar.
PRP: It's been said that Sergio Curbelo of Puya tracked a performance on a song that was originally slated to show up on the album, but it never materialized, what song did he appear on and will it ever see a release?
BC: Ahh, Jerred changed the lyrics to the song so Sergio's performance didn't work out. He killed it though. I love what Sergio did.
PRP: Grover v.s. Elmo in a one armed knife fight like the "Beat It" video by Michael Jackson, who would win?
BC: Shut the fuck up.
PRP: Is that DJ Product on the cover of "Broke"?
BC: Haha, nah, that was an actual bum in NYC sitting outside a subway station in a cap & gown. That was perfect. DJ actually smells worse though.
PRP: You guys practically re-wrote the Black Sabbath track
"Sabbra Cadabra" and gave it your own feel, while some purists have shunned it, a lot of kids have embraced it, are you proud of the song?
BC: Hell yeah. Fuck the purists.. What? Play the song the same? gulp me. We wanted to remake the song hed style and I love it..
PRP: The band recently came off the Tattoo The Earth Tour and many fans felt that it was poorly organized and that the set times were too short, having toured
Ozzfest before, which tour did you enjoy more, and how was your experience on
Tattoo The Earth?
BC: Ozzfest for sure... Organization was floundered in a big way. All the bands were great though.
PRP: The new material feels a bit more stripped down and straight forward, yet it's very edgy and gritty, do you feel this is the bands strongest record yet?
BC: Yes.
PRP: Having toured with System Of A Down, the guest performance with their frontman Serj is pretty much expected, but how did you guys hook up with Kittie and how do you feel about their current position in the world of heavy music?
BC: We were in New Jersey to take photos for the new record and Jerred was tracking vocals still. SOAD were at Irving Plaza with Kittie so we went. Hung out with the Kittie girls and the subject came up. Morgan was down and came to the studio the next day.. history from there.
PRP: With Incubus and Staind both re-releasing their indie albums, do you think there will ever be a re-release of the bands independent debut
"Church Of Realities"?
BC: Well, we'll see. We will but have to resolve some issues with our X Manager.. It will be worked out because he is a pretty cool guy.
PRP: During Ozzfest last year you guys ran into some problems when trying to play a Canadian offdate in Toronto which resulted in the deportation of a certain
band member, do you care to comment on this to clear it up and how do you feel about the Canadian market?
BC: No big deal. Mawk can't get into Canada cuz he went over there one time to sight see. When he tried to come back into the US, they arrested him for impersonating an American. Since he's an English Citizen, then shipped his ass back to London.. Then, he got on a plane to Tijuana then walked back across the border.. Now he's got a work visa to be here but Canada has banned him for 5 years.. 2 Years to go..
PRP: From an orange drumkit, to orange hair, just what is your obsession with the color orange?
BC: Not really sure.. It's my favorite obviously..
PRP: How did it feel to debut in the Billboard top 100?
BC: Very nice.. So choice.
PRP: You guys toured pretty much for a grueling 3 years on the past record, what's the touring plans for this record?
BC: P.O.D., then Snocore, then maybe some headlining shows, then
Ozzfest (hopefully) then, who the hell knows...
PRP: With Bartender taking off have you guys thought about what track you will follow it up with yet?
BC: Probably "Killing Time".
PRP: Well that's about it, any shoutouts or shameless self promotion?
BC: Shoutout to Pimp Rock Palace for always finding out information before we do.. Keep it up and HOLD IT THE FUCK DOWN!
