PRP: How did Dolly Trauma's members got together to form a band?
Dolly Trauma: We all knew each other for a while then due to the fact we didn't have anything better to do and we all liked music, we just started jamming, writing songs and stuff, ending our boredom.
PRP: How long have you guys been together as a band?
Dolly Trauma: About 3 years, give or take. But just in the last year or so have we all gotten really dedicated.
PRP: Who are in the band at all?
Dolly Trauma: Theodore Schneider III, bass; Josh Coon, vocals; Brad Thorla, drums; Jeff Seelye, guitars.
PRP: Any line-up changes since the band's start?
Dolly Trauma: Jeff used to play bass and Ted used to play guitar.
PRP: Why you decided to play the instrument you do, or, to sing? Anyone inspired you?
Dolly Trauma: All of us played guitar at one time. We went down different paths based on a complicated process of elimination. Brad became the drummer because he was the only one who had the ability to keep a steady beat. Josh sang because he was the only one who could actually carry a tune. Jeff continued to play guitar because he learned really fast and he seemed to have the ablility to write really cool riffs every once in awhile. Ted played bass because he cared the least about what instrument he plays and he just wanted to make a lot of noise.
PRP: Any material released?
Dolly Trauma: Five track CD.
PRP: How you got your name?
Dolly Trauma: A fascination that Brad and I had with the movie Caddyshack and various Eastern religions. Stupid high school stuff. Except caddyshack. That wasn't stupid.
PRP: How would you describe your band's sound to someone who has never heard you guys?
Dolly Trauma: Loud, slow, heavy parts in between quiet, slow, sad parts. Basically, dynamic-intense-melodic-emotional songs.
PRP: What's the song writing process like? Are there any "hitlers" in the band, related to the song writing process?
Dolly Trauma: Jeff or Josh bring in a riff or melody, the band jams on it, getting other ideas and it eventually evolves into a song. Definitely no hitlers. We all do our thing to get the song how we want it. Like, Josh makes sure its got melody, Brad makes sure its emotional, Jeff makes sure it's not boring and Ted makes sure it doesn't sound too gay.
PRP: How's the music scene there in Akron, OH?
Dolly Trauma: I'd say it's really good. Especially all over NE Ohio. All the bands are real supportive of each other. Except Mushroomhead, probably the biggest NE Ohio band.
PRP: Any band I should check out from there?
Dolly Trauma: Funny, Hate Theory, Poets of Another Breed, Mialso, Dissolute, NDE, there's a bunch.
PRP: How you guys do to spread yourself out from the others?
Dolly Trauma: We don't really sound like any of them at all. Various reasons. If nothing else, the entire Akron scene is filled with relatively original bands. No one is out to rip anyone off.
PRP: Does any of the members are in any side projects?
Dolly Trauma: Jeff and Josh do some melancholy, suicidal acoustic stuff on the side, with occasional help from Brad and other members of local bands. Brad and Jeff might join up with a very good guitarist from Hate Theory to form a sludgecore band, minus vocals--should be interesting. Ted really doesn't like music so he has no desire to be in more than one band.
PRP: Influences of the band?
Dolly Trauma: Melvins, Tori Amos, Crowbar, Depeche Mode, Soundgarden, Radiohead, Nirvana, Deftones, Tool, etc. Basically, anything slow, melodic, emotional.
PRP: Best underground band out there, in your opinion?
Dolly Trauma: Melvins, if you consider them underground.
PRP: All Time Favorite Band?
Dolly Trauma: The Melvins are probably our favorite for their integrity and ability to keep it real.
PRP: What would be the tour of your dreams? Your band plus.... ?
Dolly Trauma: In America: Tool, Melvins, us. In Europe: Depeche Mode, Radiohead, us.
PRP: Was Dolly Trauma ever approached by any record label?
Dolly Trauma: Yeah. A realy big label approached us once, and right when they were going to ask us to sign, they kept on walking and pretty soon they weren't approaching us anymore.
PRP: Any big plans in the horizon?
Dolly Trauma: Continue to write music.
PRP: Last show you went to?
Dolly Trauma: Other than a local band, the last show I went to was Karma to Burn. I know the last show all four of us went to was the Melvins at the Euclid Tavern in Cleveland.
PRP: Anything you wanna add? Last comments?
Dolly Trauma: Nope. Everything's all good.
