PRP: First of all...tell me how Crackerjack System got together? How you guys decided you wanted to play music together?
Ian: Simon, Josh and I had gone to the same camp years back and than, last summer we met up again and along with our previous bassist, Matt Traynor, started the band.
PRP: I see......you guys always had the same musical tastes and shit?
Ian: Yeah.
PRP: What would be Crackerjack System's influences?
Ian: Well, growing up, we were the trendy dance music types, and Crackerjack System has a lot of influences. Personally, my lyrics are influenced by tons of musical genres: for example, deftones and far, to various types of jungle and rave etc. The band's main influence is hardcore though.
PRP: Cool. You guys have anything released?
Ian: We're in the process of printing our first demo cd, entitled "Sixty Nine Degrees", that we recorded in march.
PRP: Dope. Any idea of when it will be released?
Ian: Hopefully, end of june, early july.
PRP: Are any of the members in other bands?
Ian: Nope, we're all just in Crackerjack System, and hope to keep it that way.
PRP: Are you guys the only band with that kind of sound in Canada? Personally, I've only heard about one Canada band besides Crackerjack System...which's a rapcore band called Guerilla. They sing in french, though. My point is, is the metal scene in canada any good?
Ian: The scene in Toronto, at least, is fucking amazing. There are a lot of bands with a sound similar to ours in the area i live in.
PRP: Cool....you guys help each other when you can?
Ian: Yeah, for sure. We're actually being reffered to a label by a friend's band. We all help each other out.
PRP: I asked that cause here in Brazil, there's some crazy situation. The hardcore scene here is kinda divided... one group try to fuck with the other, and vice versa. That's some fucked up situation...
Ian: That's not cool. Bands gotta help each other out. You have to create a huge link with other bands, you have to find people to relate to. Thats the only way you'll succeed.
PRP: That's true....anyway, what's in the cd player at the moment?
Ian: Fear Factory's "Obsolete".
PRP: Amazing album...
Ian: For sure! It's fucking amazing.
PRP: How would you describe Crackerjack System's sound to someone who hasn't heard anything of you guys?
Ian: Spuckore! It makes no sense, it's just fucking crazy.
PRP: You said that the metal scene in toronto is amazing. How you guys do to spread yourself out from the others?
Ian: We just express ourselves. Our sound is so different than other bands just because its us. You have all those cover bands who try and sound like a band that they're not.
We dont try at all, we just make music that we think sounds good.
PRP: What would be the meaning behind the name "Crackerjack System"?
Ian: Crackerjack System was a name the band thought up together when we were all really fucked up. My interpretation of the name and the way i explain it is that it means fucked up society.
PRP: Cool...any shows booked or something?
Ian: We just played a show last night. Amazing crowd, they really loved our shit! Other than that, our schedule is clear for the moment.
PRP: I'm just curious: Have you guys ever been approached by any record label?
Ian: We were talking with Roadrunner Records recently, but im not sure what happened with those talks.
PRP: No chance for a record deal, then?
Ian: Not at the moment. We're independant.
PRP: Ok.....my mind is blank now, Ian. You have any last words?
Ian: Last words? ummm...everyone is a fisherman!
PRP: Are you? I don't think I am...
Ian: Hehehehehe
