Introduction:
SPiNE rose to prominence in their native DC/VA scene with their explosive live shows and volatile mixture of various musical influences. After achieving widespread underground acclaim with their 1999 release, "The Dirty Sanchez", the group spent the better part of early 2000 playing shows throughout the east coast while also working on new material for what was set to be their next release. May however turned out to be a month that would change these plans when the band suffered a setback in the form of bassist/vocalist Jennifer being involved in a car wreck. Fortunately though, the injuries weren't too serious and she was able to make a full recovery. Despite the fresh wounds, it was only days after the accident occurred, when the band also received word that they had been chosen to perform live for an episode of the Farmclub.com TV show, an announcement that no doubt helped speed up any necessary healing. A flight to Los Angeles, CA followed in late June, where they taped their performance for the show alongside acts such as Disturbed and Kittie before heading back home and releasing 3 of their newest tracks in mp3 format on the web. Showing off their new direction and sharper sound, the new songs managed to cause quite a stir amongst the heavy music crowd and had many ears perked for what was to come. September then found their performance airing internationally and proved to be a catalyst for the months that would ensue. But even though they were inundated with calls from record labels and positive feedback from their TV debut, the band parted ways with programmer/vocalist Sean G. shortly after in mid-September, a departure that shocked many longtime fans. However, this slight speed bump was quickly paved over when it was announced in early November that the group were the first signing to fledging record label, Revo Records. It was then within days of that announcement, that the fourpiece entered a Baltimore studio with producer Drew Mazurek (Nothingface, Dog Fashion Disco) to begin work on recording their debut for their new found home. As 2000 drew to a close they completed the recording and worked on mixing the effort throughout the holidays. Now, with January upon us and their forthcoming debut "I: Remember" now complete and on track for an April release, SPiNE are prepping to take to the road in February beginning what looks to be a grueling year ahead of tearing clubs up across the country and leaving audiences with something that they will most definitely remember. - wookubus
