Introduction:
Slaves On Dope gained moderate success in eastern Canada after constantly playing shows in and around their local scene. Eventually though, there came a time when they felt they had achieved all the success their surroundings could offer and as such they decided to relocate to Los Angeles, CA to search out their dreams and make it to the big time. That move paid off in spades as their performance at a showcase in late '99 caught the attention of Divine Recordings, a label founded by rock legend Ozzy Osbourne. At the time the band was already in negotiations with Columbia Records, but Ozzy's offer turned out to be too sweet to resist and soon after, they found themselves becoming the first signing to Divine Recordings. With the ink on the contract still drying, they headed to the studio in the early spring to record what would become their debut for the label with producer Thom Panunzio (Black Sabbath) and prepared for their first ever national tour, a coveted Second Stage slot on the Ozzfest 2000 bill which ran them from the summer through to the fall. After leaving a considerable impression on audiences and creating quite a buzz, the band continued to intoxicate fans across the country following it up with a stint alongside Soulfly, Downset. and Primer 55 and went on to release their full length effort, "Inches From The Mainline" in October. With an album finally in stores and countless hours logged on the road, the group continued to soldier on lining up a tour with fellow Ozzfest 2000 alumni's Crazy Town and Shuvel and found their songs show up on the "Blair Witch 2 - Book Of Shadows" Soundtrack and the import version of Black Sabbath tribute album "Nativity In Black II". Now as 2000 becomes history and 2001 begins to take shape there's no signs shown that they will be slowing down anytime soon as they already have both a slot on the upcoming Sno-Core tour and a video for the title track of their album set to impact in the early months, and if things keep going this well for the group, you can bet that they will show once and for all that you can find happiness in slavery. - wookubus
