Introduction:
Papa Roach dominated their local scene and released a string of CD's while being independent, but it was only after years of hard work that the group finally got their chance after signing a recording contract with Dreamworks Records late last year. They then hit the studio soon after with producer Jay Baumgardner (Coal Chamber) and recorded what is now their infamous major label debut, "Infest" which hit stores in spring and debuted at #48 on the Billboard charts. With the release of the first single "Last Resort" instantly finding success for this Sacramento based four piece and the accompanying video receiving heavy air play on MTV, they decided to hit the road opening for Sevendust and Kittie and then headed out with Taproot. Following this up with a short stint on the Warped Tour, the group subsequently landed an opening slot on the Sick And Twisted Tour which featured Korn and Powerman 5000. After such a huge tour and sales of their album now past the platinum mark, the band launched their own tour with (hed)p.e. and Taproot in tow and followed it up with a host of first ever overseas shows, before scoring a slot on the Anger Mangement Tour which also included Limp Bizkit, Eminem and Xzibit. They then launched another tour of their own with Linkin Park in tow which led them into late winter. But all of this is merely just the tip of the iceberg for the band, who also appeared on The Late Show With David Letterman, Late Night With Conan O'Brien, The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, Farmclub.com and also had a track on the extremely popular videogame "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2" along with a cut on both volumes of the MTV "Return Of The Rock" CD series, all within under a year of releasing their debut album. This alone is enough to solidify the band as one of Heavy Music's biggest players and when coupled with the fact that they also recently launched their own record label imprint New Noize and arguably had two of the biggest songs and videos of the summer in the form of "Last Resort" and "Broken Home", it's not hard to see why. At present with "Infest" now having sold over 2 million copies in the U.S alone, the group are finally seeing their first batch of downtime since the beginning of the year and plan to take a short break after such a grueling year of touring. But that doesn't mean you won't be hearing from them as they will be releasing their next single "Between Angels And Insects" early next year and they are also lined up to record a track for an impending Faith No More tribute album. Current plans however, have the band heading overseas for a complete European tour featuring (hed)p.e. in mid January and you can expect a few huge tours to follow that before they eventually regroup in the studio near the end of next year to begin work on their sophomore effort for Dreamworks. - wookubus
