Hoobustank |
Introduction: After cutting their teeth with bands such as Incubus and VENT in the California scene, Hoobustank found themselves face to face with adversity this year. After spending the better part of the winter and spring writing new material, they parted ways with long time saxophonist Jeremy Wasser just as the summer arrived. This move marked a new chapter in bands life and they headed to the studio soon after, to record some new material with producer Jim Wirt (Incubus, Dial-7), for what was originally set to be their next independent release. In no hurry to finish off the album though, they took their time and released three of the newly tracked songs in mp3 format to the web in the summer for the fans to check out and to also gain insight on what people though about the new direction they were headed in. Fortunately despite the fact that the feedback was positive, the fans weren't the only one's listening as the four piece soon found themselves entertaining offers from various major labels. After weighing their options, all signs seemed to point towards the group signing with Immortal/Virgin, it was however then announced that they had joined the Island/Def Jam roster and although details are still sketchy about what went on, a lawsuit was filed by Immortal Records claiming that the band had signed to their label first and then a day later decided against it and signed with Island. Yet, despite the legal troubles, which the band later claimed as false, they continued work on their new material and are now slated to hit the studio in late January to begin recording their major label debut, once again with producer Jim Wirt and if the controversy, their guest appearances on Incubus's albums or their intriguing name haven't caught your attention, then you can bet that by mid-2001 their music will. - wookubus Albums
