Introduction: After performing various live shows with differing line-ups, A Perfect Circle finally settled on their firm line-up in late 99 and headed into the studio to record their Virgin Records debut "Mer De Noms". The group instantly gained interest due to the fact it features Tool front man Maynard James Keenan on vocals, but more cultured music fans also looked forward to the prospect of former Failure guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen's work, not too mention the percussive talents of Josh Freese (Suicidal Tendencies). Hitting the road early in the spring with none other than nine inch nails as part of the Fragility v2.0 tour, the spring saw the group perform on Late Night With Conan O'Brien before releasing their widely acclaimed debut in late May to high sales, debuting at #4 on the Billboard Charts. The video for their first single "Judith" went on to instantly receive high rotation on various video outlets and as such the albums sales continued to soar. Following up their North American touring stint with some European and Australian dates, they then went on to join the Summersault tour in August which took them all across Canada. Returning back to their home shores afterwards, they kicked off the late summer with another U.S. tour, this time with Sunna in tow and as they shipped their single "3 Libras" to radio and video outlets in the fall, they found themselves being certified platinum in the U.S. in November for sales in excess of 1 million. With success no longer a question, they took some downtime to work on a few of their other projects, the most notable of which being Maynard returning to the studio with Tool. Bassist Paz Lenchantin also kept busy, putting together her own solo effort "Yellow mY skYcaptain", but perhaps the most interesting project of all being worked on was ENEMY, a group which although still in its infant stages, features band guitarist Troy stepping into the spotlight as a front man, being backed by former Handsome bassist Eddie Nappi and drummer Alan Cage formerly of Quicksand. The aforementioned trio spent the latter part of the fall and winter working on new material and hit the studio to record a new demo expected to be released early this year as A Perfect Circle plan to kick back into gear, launching yet another U.S, headlining tour, this time with Snake River Conspiracy during the spring. Yet, with the other responsibilities of band front man Maynard who will be touring with Tool later this year, directly hampering the groups immediate plans for the future. Perhaps 2001 will give ENEMY a chance to come to prominence and finally showcase the gifted skills that Troy has, without being shadowed by the merits of others. - wookubus Albums
