Introduction:
Amen have always been the center of controversy since the release of their I AM/Roadrunner debut in 1999. From a well publicized feud with an act they were touring with, to the gratuitous self mutilation on stage and their sneering stance on everything American, they have managed to gain quite the notorious reputation during their short few years as a group. Featuring 3 former members of the beloved Santa Barbara act Snot, Amen found themselves in dire straits when the year 2000 dawned on them. After parting ways with Roadrunner in an undesirable manner in late '99, the band were held at a stand still until the spring hit and they found themselves a new home with I AM/Virgin. With a new contract in hand, they convened in a Los Angeles, CA studio with producer Ross Robinson (Korn, Slipknot) to record what was proclaimed as "the most violent album in major label history". Shortly after their time in the studio, the band landed a choice slot on the Tattoo The Earth Tour in the summer and played to audiences across America as a part of it. It wasn't long after that stint ended when the band made the trek overseas for a stint of European dates along which included an opening slot on the Reading Festival, where they arguably stole the show and cemented themselves as one of the fiercest up and coming bands in many years, not to mention also whipping the European press into a frenzy. Fresh off their foreign invasion they headed back out to attack North America once again for a jaunt across the country with Nothingface followed by another alongside Gwar. During that time they also managed to shoot a shocking video for their first single "The Price Of Reality" and released their latest effort, "We Have Come For Your Parents" on Halloween. Yet despite receiving rave reviews and even appearing on the covers of various U.K. publications such as Kerrang and NME, they still remained almost relatively unknown in North America. In spite of this, the band headed back overseas for a full European tour which saw animated frontman Casey Chaos accidentally knock himself out while performing on stage in Italy, only to get back up and finish off the set. While London's performance was marked by Casey smashing a vodka bottle on stage and carving his arm with it, creating a wound that required multiple stitches to close. As 2000 came to and end,  the band took some well deserved time off at home and with their popularity in Europe still at an all time high, their one time label, Roadrunner Records has announced their plans to re-release the group's self titled debut in January. A month which by no coincidence will also see the band back at it in the U.K. for another string of dates before returning home to release their upcoming second single, "Too Hard To Be Free". So where will 2001 take this L.A. based 5-piece? That is a question only time will be able to tell, but whatever they do, you can bet it will scare your parents shitless. - wookubus

(At the time we asked Tumor for his list, he was on tour and had broken his headphones and lost the batteries for his discman, hence a top 2 list.)
