Incubus Working On New Music, Mike Einziger’s Collaborative Charity Single Available

Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger and frontman Brandon Boyd have begun writing new material for the bands next album. Einziger tells Radio.com:

“Me and Brandon have been scheming the last couple of weeks. There’s definitely going to be new music. It probably won’t happen until next year but it’s happening.”

He went on to add:

“…You know everybody’s got a lot of things going on but we’re slowly bringing out focus back to the band and everybody’s excited about it because we’ve had enough time away from it to where it’s exciting for everyone. There’s definitely some really great stuff coming.”

“Our plan as of now is put new music out probably early enough in the year that we would be set up to go out and do full touring in the summertime of next year.”

You can hear some new music from Einziger right now however. Today saw the release of his charity collaboration single with Blink-182‘s Travis Barker, Pharrell Williams, Hans Zimmer and more. Proceeds from that song, titled “‘Til Everyone Can See” are earmarked for ‘Red Card To Child Labour‘. You can listen to it now at this location.

Every time I get excited about new Incubus, I start to remember how disappointing they’ve been for a decade now. Here’s hoping they get their groove back, but somehow I doubt it.

I’m of the mindset that this band hasn’t done anything worthwhile since Morning View, and that record did not hold up at ALL for me. In fact, I’m pretty much a S.C.I.E.N.C.E and a “Pardon Me” guy. That record and that song will always be welcome to my ears, but the rest just doesn’t appeal to me.

All about S.C.I.E.N.C.E. and Make Yourself for me, but Morning View is still pretty kewl. I think losing Alex/Dirk on bass was their downfall. Ben Kenney is probably more technically gifted, but they never regained that same chemistry or spark that made those early albums shine.

Yeah morning view was the last solid album. Although “sick sad little world” from aclotm I believe to be one of their best songs. They need to all hangout together and eat some mushrooms and figure it out. Their newer sound is just empty of creativity.

Light Grenades did have a handful of good songs though.

I did like a number of tracks from the post-Morning View stuff. It’s just that the albums as a whole weren’t very good. Sick Sad Little World is definitely a standout and I really dug Adolescents from the last one as well. More stuff in that vein would please me.

Every Incubus album except that last abortion have been solid – they need to let Ben sing and be himself more, I feel like they hired him and then put him in a box. Check out his solo stuff, he’s awesome (and plays everything Reznor-style): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPmwwXr-y8A

At first, I thought Brandon was the only one giving himself a musical enema, now Mike too!? Ok guys, let it all out… hopefully these shitty projects will set you up for success in 2015.

Unless Stewie, Arnold Schwarzenegger, or Doc Brown can show up and tell this band to stop future atrocities and get back to good ole’ days, we’re screwed.
