Rowdy Slipknot Fans Break Stage Barrier At 2013 ‘Download Festival’ Performance

Slipknot‘s headlining performance at the 2013 ‘Download Festival‘ in Donington Park, UK last night (July 14th) was temporarily derailed twice after the tens of thousands of fans in attendance broke the barricade between the fans and the stage. Footage of band frontman Corey Taylor addressing the crowd during one of the barrier breaks can be found below along with some fan-filmed footage from the set:

These guys bother me so much. They are the fuckin ICP of metal with all the costumes, and “we’re a family” bullshit. I wish one of their egos would rip them apart already.

    • ZMA

Maybe like 3 out of the 8 have egos. Clown definitely does. Most of these dudes are genuinely nice guys in person.

    • Lifeseclipse

I’m always amazed at how much support they get from people who hate gimmicks, write weaker material for radio as time goes, and employ a troop of useless members. Something this band has been doing 15 years straight. It’s just a phase kids grow out of, but then kids are born everyday. Hot Topic kids, right there to carry the torch. Can I get some more delicious thumbs down? Prp is gettin boring lately.

      • Lifeseclipse

        lol, wut?

      • ZMA

You got so many thumbs down, because while you’re not wrong, you’re not right either lol. Look, you try putting out albums, and playing high end shows with 8 other dudes. I mean it’s no Trans-Siberian Orchestra or some shit, but staying relevant and solid since 99 with 9 guys in the band when most bands today only have 4 to 5 members is no easy task. They’ve had their share of fuck ups. But now everyone is older, and slightly more matured as musicians. Jim Root, great player, Joey Jordison, great player. Dudes played with some big names. Mick, and Paul (RIP) are, and were, great guys and solid players and Corey has a great voice that he practically killed himself to get, at least his heavier screams. I mean they aren’t fuckin’ saints lol. But they deserve to be where they’re at. They worked hard for it and I think they deserve it. You don’t like them obviously, so you might not know their background history the way I might. That being said I DO hate their fan base. A lot of people who don’t really listen to much metal break into Slipknot, because of their popularity. But now, I try not to let that deter me from enjoying a good band. It’s a similar thing with Kiss, or Gwar, or any other bands with gimmicks. I COULD be an acquired taste for many, but some bands put out good music behind the gimmicks anyway. I’m not tryin’ to convert you or anything. You have your preferences and that’s fine. I’m just making some interesting points. If you still don’t agree, than whatever, can’t tell you how to live your life bro lol. Carry on.

I don’t let a shitty fanbase influence me. Slipknot had a few good ones on their first 2 discs. But then Corey became more interested in Grammy awards after telling his fanbase up till then that those kinds of things didnt mean shit. If they are going to brag about their albums getting heavier, and more brutal, they should deliver someday. I can’t tell any of that radio rock shit apart since subliminal verses.

  • kturl69

Now thats fucking metal! Slipknot are some crazy motherfuckers.

  • RUREADY2JIGGLE?

Were they acting rowdy or were the bulk of them suffering from eating disorders, causing the seams of the stage barrier to burst?

  • GordonLightfootLoverXEX

I used to think Slipknot was the best metal band ever. Then I stopped being 14.

    • Lifeseclipse

      This.

    • Lifeseclipse

That interview from 99 where Corey says that they are crazy because Iowa makes crazy motherfuckers. How embarrassing to have that now on youtube and shit. We need 3 drummers. One to play fucking hard, one to tumble around on stage and rough house with unimportant band members, and one to sit on his drums and jack his nose off. Without one of them, we can’t play!

      Seriously? STFU.

      • ZMA

They have a lot of embarrassing shit on Youtube that they probably don’t care about. Do they need that many percussionists? Probably not. Surprisingly, each member actually does contribute to each album. The only 2 members I could think of cutting out are Chris, and Craig, because Sid could do keyboards and samples, and Clown can do the extra percussion. But the classic 2 guitars, bass, drums, vocals combo is true and tested. But for this band it’d be weird without all of them. It’s funny to watch them all do stupid shit on stage. Like when Sid broke his heels lol. They put on a great live show. Lot of energy there. Hate on dudes who actually deserve it like Axel Rose because he’s a terrible, terrible person in real life. Once again though, can’t tell you how to live your life. Cause ya know, internet arguments always work out in the end right? lmao

      • KhanTROLL

“…I can do it all by myself!” exclaimed Joey Jordison, while the other maggots wrastled each other, over which oil drums they would get to pound.

    • ZMA

I don’t think they’re the best band ever, but I think people hate their image more than the music itself. If they didn’t do the whole mask thing, people might not hate them as much, cause they’d pay more attention to the music. Not saying you are. Just sayin’.

      • GordonLightfootLoverXEX

No, I dig crazy gimmicks in bands and stage shows. My favorite band is KISS. I went to see Mayhem last year and while I enjoyed Slipknot and their stage show and like their music as blunt, neanderthal metal I just believe there is better music. They were a gateway band for me to get into other and heavier music. I think a lot of their fan base are ignorant fucktards ala Slayer and Lamb of God. I dig them and thought they were awesome last year at Mayhem but not as much as when I was 14. But I have been replaced by a new wave of 14 year olds. And they will be replaced by the next wave of 14 year olds after them.

  • MyDarkPassenger

I for one never stopped liking them. Sure I don’t prefer All Hope… to Iowa but they still maintain their signature sound and relevancy ( they’re headlining Download many years after their last album dropped) so I feel like there’s little to complain about.

  • damn

It is suprising to me how huge Slipknot has gotten over the years, mainly because when they first came out they reminded me of backyard wrestling. Early on their music wasn’t good at all and they had this white trash attitude about life just like ICP, but when Iowa came out I changed my mind about them. I still think that album has some serious merit even today…. It is pretty ugly sounding. I remember in 2001 seeing them play on Halloween in Jersey and they fucking crushed it… totally awesome show. Since then I haven’t really listened to anything they have come out with at all though. Heard some songs of All Hope is Gone and thought they were cool, but never felt compelled to buy the album. Not a teenager anymore.

XEX : Thumbs up for a Ron Simmons appearence.

MDP: Pretty much my exact thoughts. liked the first album when I was 19, LOVED iowa and still think it hold up to this day against any heavy/black/power metal
album. V3 was 50/50 for me, and All Hopeis gone. Im not saying its bad, that’s taste..it just didnt click with me, never figured out why.

LTDR : I love me some artsy music, but the music has to be good, and the art not gay or too quirky, and Slipknot has always had a good look/art direction [the fucking iowa booklet anyone??, the video for dead memories? ] that COMPLIMENTED their atmosphere and music. I like them with their look, I like industrial bands that just have black pants and shirts and stand there. It’s not fair to make general statements like ‘music always needs a show vs any showmanship/act is JUST to hide lack of skill.”

  • dmoe

Guys, at the end of the day. Both sides are still talking about a shitty band.

    • imavampireimavampireimavampire

Fa real doe. People need to stop justifying/defending this band’s continuous success based on two (just one, in my opinion) albums they released over a fucking decade ago. Their music has been consistently terrible, their gimmick is beyond tired and Shawn Crahan’s interviews make Frankie Palmeri sound like fucking Aristotle.

*Awaits joke regarding time of post*

Like a dead beat winner, I want to be a sinner
An idolized bang for the industry killer
A hideous man that you don’t understand

        It’s evilsonic, it’s pornoholic
Breakdowns, obscenities, it’s all I wanna be

“People need to stop justifying/defending this band’s continuous success based”

What great and almight music god would you prefer we discuss? I mean, isn’t this the same discussion we have in any thread?

    • imavampireimavampireimavampire

I didn’t know there was a music deity, but I would be happy to discuss him/her. Also, are you implying that every thread contains a discussion regarding a band’s worth based on an album they released more than ten years ago?

  • rngbf

I got a question for all u bitching. Any of u in metal bands that have sold as many albums, sold as many tickets, and put on what must would agree is a pretty kick ass live show as Slipknot, even if your not a fan. I don’t much care for them but caught them live a few years back. I’ve seen shows that sucked way worse. Moral to the story, unless u can compete with that, maybe u should shut the fuck up!!
