Disturbed Frontman’s New Project Device Unveil “Vilify” Music Video

The music video for “Vilify“—the debut single from Disturbed frontman David Draiman‘s new project Device—has landed online and can be viewed below. Director P.R. Brown (Bullet For My Valentine, Slipknot) helmed the clip. The video isn’t the only thing the band have in store for today, as a digital single for the track has also been released via digital retailers.

Device is the new industrial-themed project from Disturbed vocalist David Draiman and ex-Filter guitarist Geno Lenardo. The bands self-titled debut album is set for an April 09th release date and will feature cameos from members of Black Sabbath, System Of A Down, Rage Against The Machine, Avenged Sevenfold and Halestorm.

    • I’m in what I think is the minority of people around here that believe Disturbed aren’t (weren’t?) totally worthless as a musical entity.
That said, pity. Song starts out okay, then MR. DRAIMAN MAKES HIS ENTRANCE and it kind of starts falling apart. His rhythmic delivery sounds like the mediocre execution of a youtube mash-up in which the songs Kinda fit? But not really?

On the positive side his vocals kind of grew a bit more ballsy and the instrumental really isn’t half bad, but the melodies of both sort of sound like a couple going through a rough divorce.

      Pity.

I hate Disturbed with a passion but figured “I can be wrong. I am wrong a good amount of the time. So, in theory, maybe, this could be good?”

Nope. This just plain sucked. It is about as industrial as an Amish village.

      This is absolutely awful…

When I heard that Geezer, Morello and Glen Hughes were going to be guests on this project, I figured it had to be decent. I really liked Geno in Filter as well… I will probably check out the rest of the album for the guest appearances, but this song is horrid.

I’m going to float an idea out here to see what people think. I’m 31 years old. In high school and college I was a big fan of nu-metal. Korn, Ultraspank, Disturbed etc etc. I have a wide range of musical tastes, but during the late 90s/early 00s I was huge into nu-metal. I still listen to it from time to time. In fact, the other day I was listening to Depswa- a guilty pleasure. Listening to nu-metal of that period brings me back to that period. Listening to nu-metal created today is somewhat depressing. Unlike any other style of music, my opinion is nu-metal is very much a product of the late 90s and doesn’t fit anywhere else. You could get away with standing in an abandoned factory or a dumpster-strewn alley because the late 90s were kind of like the 80s. Colorful and a bit over the top. Even the music of the 80s still fits today. Synth-powered songs are catchy…and seem to mesh well with the hipness of 2013. Nu-metal just doesn’t fit. I will stand by the nu-metal albums created during the late 90s/early 00s…but the stuff created today just seems empty and forced. And lazy. Simple songs structures are nothing to scoff at, but for some reason nu-metal takes simple and morphs it into banal. This was longer than I wanted it to be.

David Drainman is the Lightning McQueen of metal… Ka Ka Ka Ka Chow!

He had a Hoooouh!!! in the middle, but sadly he did not have any random outbursts in this song (yes, I punished myself by watching the whole video) I’ve been procrastinating on writing a paper for school, so I needed to punish myself somehow.

        • @Bleedfromthesky, You wouldn’t know metal if a box full of hot wheel cars fell on you from a shelf inside a metal shed.

        • Lots of Disturbed fans and Pantera fans live in mobile home villages and fuck their immediate family members. The major difference is that Pantera is awesome and Disturbed is terrible.

    • I don’t mind Disturbed, I actually somewhat like them – I was also going through high school when The Sickness came out and it fit in well with the early Slipknot / Korn / Limp Bizkit / etc. But this… this is no good. It also sucks how they’re getting put on all these major festivals due to his name, without releasing a single track until today, and this is what it is. I hope they stick this on a side stage at Rock on the Range so I have another option.

    • Hey, I didn’t make the rules, I just follow them. Pantera are Southern Trendkillers, while Disturbed are a walking cliche. It’s a case of grit vs gloss, and for that reason I overlook the fact that Pantera are a bunch of redneck trashbags, just as I will do the same for Lamb of God or any other substantive band in the same category.

      • Kturl, my nigga! Himsa and Crue avatars and now a Will Hunt fan? You rule, man. Will Hunt has played with some shitty bands over the years but the man can play. I still wish Evanescence wouldn’t have lured him away from Black Label Society; he was the perfect replacement for Louisiana Lightning.

        • Wrong. The dude’s greatest accomplishment is being such a fuckin G that he can be given 8 hours notice to fill-in on a tour and will learn the set in within those 8 hours. There’s a reason a shit ton of bands go to this dude as short-term fill-in and/or permanent member.

        • Yeah, correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure that 8 hour notice was for Motley Crue!?
