Terror: “There’s More To Lyrics Than How Innovative Of A Wordsmith You May Or May Not Be”

An unspecified member of Terror hit the bands Twitter recently to share the following thoughts on lyrical content:

“Never let someone tell you simple, to-the-point lyrics about brotherhood lack substance just because they’re not cryptic poems. There’s more to lyrics than how innovative of a wordsmith you may or may not be. It’s the passion behind them that shines through.”

In addition to a new 7″ for their track “Hard Lessons” the band have plans to release their new album “Live By The Code” in the nearing months.

    • Gimme a break, this bands lyrics are as simple-minded as country lyrics.

“Stick tight, stick tight, I stick tight to my friends, stick tight…”

Shit, how do other bands compete with lyrics like those?

Really? because I find that wordsmiths generally write better music, tired of all the fucking kids in my school who listen to woka flokka or 2chainz, at least gain a good taste in hip hop, like Kendrick Lamar or Death Grips who are both great lyricists.

I like terrors music nothing wrong with to the point lyrics. The only thing I have to pick at is the front-mans choice of bands to attack. The ghost inside is a decent band why not attack some shit pop artist? At least the ghost inside is playing some sort of hardcore/metal.

      • Again, because the dude is a hater. The dude hate’s on anything that better than he is or, in this case, can write lyrics with multi-syllable words.

    • It’s cool if a singer/lyricist can get by with emotion instead of clever wordplay and inventive imagery, but this statement would mean more coming from Thom Yorke or Maynard James Keenan, not presumably Scott Vogel, with his “Vogelisms” schtick

Why is it always douchebags from bands that play 500-1,500 capacity bars that act like they are Paul fucking McCartney or something?

I’m pretty sure the tweet read, “Never let someone tell you simple, to-the-point lyrics about brotherhood lack substance just because they’re not cryptic poems. There’s more to lyrics than how innovative of a wordsmith you may or may not be. It’s the passion behind them that shines through, bro.”

While the statement is from a band that I’m not interested in I agree with what he said. Most of the music I listen to has some cleverness in it’s lyrics. However, sometimes simple sentences carry more of a punch than a paragraph of word-play. Look at “Weight” by ISIS. It’s a perfect song (on a perfect album) with two lyrics “All in a day. A day it changes everything.” Simple, and without any expansive diction. I’m sure he’s referencing more of the core type lyrics but the idea is still the same.

Yes, those two lyrics are deep to me. Listen to the song and maybe it’ll sink in. If not, meh. Still important to me, and being selfish is what matters with that thar gitfiddlin’ and a drum thumpin.
