Lostprophets Members Comment On Ian Watkin’s Arrest
The Lostprophets have commented on the shocking arrest of their frontman Ian Watkins on child sex related charges. A statement posted over at the bands official website, Lostprophets.com reads:
“Following charges made today against Ian Watkins, we find ourselves in a state of shock. We are learning about the details of the investigation along with you. It is a difficult time for us and our families, and we want to thank our fans for their support as we seek answers.

Jesus Christ are you guys that stupid?! Go back to grade school. You NEVER put an ‘s at the end of a last name that ends with an s. You simply put an apostrophe after the name and leave it at that. Obviously, you guys are products of grade school in the north.
I can’t believe people are still arguing this. Plethora and MDP were right in saying that either way is acceptable. Bottom line, there’re a lot of nitty-gritty grammar issues like this that have no universal hard rule. As such, all the individual style guides out there determine their own means of how to handle such things.
For example, the Chicago Manual of Style, one of the most well-known style guides, actually says to use “…s’s” if the “s” at the end of a singular possessive word is silent, and to go with “…s’” in all other cases of possessive forms of singular words ending in “s.”
And yes, I did find this all through Google. However, I did it sometime over the course of the past few years, because, like Plethora, I know enough to know when I don’t know something, and in those cases, I actually go and try to educate myself.

Watkins’ and Watkins’s are acceptable but I can assure you the former is more widely used.
As presumably the only user here with a degree in English, I’m uniquely qualified to ensure you all that Plethora is in fact correct. However, using “Watkins’s” not only looks and reads terrible, but also could only be acceptable in a colloquial non-academic setting, i.e. this website.
If y’all wanna turn this space into a grammar nazi gathering I’m cool with that, but I’d prefer to just discuss meathead metal topics with total academic abandon. Let’s not let this Welsh pervert tear us all apart over his shitty completely ruined family name.
