Chimaira’s Mark Hunter Shows Off His “Huge” Royalty Check

Chimaira vocalist Mark Hunter has shown off his royalty check in a photo which can be viewed below. The image was posted with the caption: “Another huge royalty check. #nofilter”

You may recall Trivium vocalist/guitarist Matt Heafy making a similar post last year. His check however was later revealed to be erroneously issued from a streaming music site and not from Roadrunner Records. It was not specified which label/company cut Hunter‘s aforementioned check.

Mark Hunter Of Chimaira's Royalty Check

  • Dyno

If Chimaira made a decent album on R.R. maybe that check would be closer to being worth the paper it’s printed on.

    • scorpions

ok dipshit. that almost made sense…

      • Dyno

The shit they did before signing with RR was phenomenal. Once they got there, it was some over processed something that wasn’t that built them a fan base. It sucked. I had the first 2 albums off RR of theirs, the second one was better but nothing ever came close to the EP and their first LP.
Sorry it is what it is. Thumb it down all ya want.

      • Vautour

^ They didn’t even RELEASE an LP before signing to Roadrunner Records. And this “their first demo r00lz, dude – after that they just went downhill!” crap has been / is / will forever be the dumbest shit you can possibly say. Also, if you only had the first two albums they released on RR, you missed four albums you obviously don’t know shit about.

I said this about 2 months ago and I’ll say it again. The Impossibility of Reason!

I hate agreeing with Kturl69….haha still bitter i guess…but i agree. Great link, i must have missed this news piece, i respect Hunter all the more now.

      • SpinSwimScream

Pass Out of Existence was pretty beastly when it came out. I think it was a solid album and still is today. What’s the name if their EP that came out before it? I’ve never heard it, but was always told it was even better.

      • scorpions

@ spitscreamer- its called ‘this present darkness’. Its a very good listen sir… I’m sure pirate bay has it

      • SpinSwimScream

        Thanks man.

  • coolguy2424

Nobody said that it would be easy. The life of a rocker is one of hardship and woe. If you want it easy, get a job at Home Depot or something.

  • mad_hiddy

The more these rockstars keep bitching about money, the more inclined people will be to not show a single goddamn interest in their music. Let’s all tell him what the rich have been telling the Occupy movement : “If you don’t like it, quit”. Making music should NEVER be about making money. Maybe Chimaira should have more emo-singing in it, then they’ll be picked up by the tween crowd. Hunter should be proud of making so little, because it shows he isn’t selling out like Korn or Limp Bizkit. If he doesn’t like it, he should go back to his old job waiting tables.

    • Lern2Swim

I couldn’t agree more. I’m tired of the whining and I’m tired of musicians treating their fans like the enemy.

    • harkmunter

      Hi Mad,

How am I bitching about money? Everyone that knows me knows that I am pro-downloading and have never bitched about fans ‘stealing’ music. I have also been pro-spotify, and youtube and haven’t bought music in ages.

I simply found it funny that they wasted paper on such a miniscule number – and most people find the humor in it.

I waited tables 18 years ago for 2 months. How could you possibly know this?! Exciting.

Thanks for the advice on how to market myself to the tween crowd!

      • Stereotypical Evil Archer

There’s just enough time to get Arnold, Spicuzza, DeVries, Andols and LaMarca back together for a Christmas show. I would write 58 $0.58 checks to Chimaira if that happened.

      • They Ate Their Macaroons in Silence

        Hey Mark,

Could you let Austin write the drum parts if you do another record?
        - Al Pacino

      • Lifeseclipse

It’s crazy, the people that show up just to post something on the PRP board. It makes the world feel smaller, doesn’t it?

        - Tom Hanks

    • Tom

      except hes not bitching

      • mad_hiddy

I know this because I’ve been following Chimaira since your Farmclub days. I’m a fan, so don’t get things twisted. However, you have to realize that it comes off as pretentious/patronizing to post your cheque online. I wasn’t even really dissing you “Mark”. My point was to take a shot at the modern day music fans, who would rather hear metal bands sing like Justin Bieber than Tom Araya, or Jamey Jasta. Sorry for jumping to conclusions, but with the amount of musicians bitching about downloading and not getting paid enough, I just assumed that’s what this was all about. I don’t think I’m alone on that either. It just doesn’t come off as a joke, that’s all I’m saying.

      • kturl69

The guy is a L7 weenie. Yeah yeah, Oscar Myer even, footlong, dodger dog, a fucking weenie!

    • Fred Fred Burger (Darkdevout)

“… should be proud of making so little” if music wasn’t about the money more than half the seen wouldn’t exist, these guys need their bread and butter. Artists expecting to make money of their album doesn’t mean they record shit and release it. Also get over yourself.

      • Moxy? Oh, Brian

let’s be honest…more than half the scene probably shouldn’t exist.
but i agree with you, fans who think bands wanting to make a living don’t care about the music is retarded, it’s stupid to say you love and respect an artist so you hope they stay broke and homeless living in a van for as long as it suits you.

  • fake

  • damn (your mom’s balls)

He should just roll some weed into that check and spark that shit up! 0.58$ never tasted so good.

  • Nocturnal

    People.. people.

    It’s called sarcasm. Not bitching.

  • adamonfire

That check is $9,999.42 away from needing a signature.

    • BloodyBoneKummer

Can’t re-hash the Heafy tweet joke brotha.

  • mad_hiddy

lots of people hanging off this dudes dick on this site. wow.

    • BlueBalls

I’ll start complaining the day he tweets a fucking novel in all caps. Until then…

    • G Scotty

I really don’t see anyone hanging off Hunter’s dick here, i think you’re just butt hurt about all the thumbs down you just received, as per your usual, for some dumb shit you felt the need to say.

That said, I’ve been into Chimaira since the Farmclub days as well, saw them open for Hatebreed (i think) on the Pass Out Of Existence tour at the now burned down (R.I.P.) Saratoga Winners in NY. I was high as shit and i cannot remember seeing a stage presence like they had back then. I’m on the PRP pretty often and i do not recall ever hearing about Hunter bitching or complaining at all, far as I can tell dude just keeps making records, and when his band falls apart he calls up some more dudes to pick it back up, and goes out there and plays. Dude deserves a little respect in my opinion, and yeah i can see the sarcasm in posting a picture of that check. rant over.

      • kturl69

        Game.Set.Match. G Scotty.

  • ethos

So where does this check actually come from? Is it just from some random streaming site again?

    This Present Brokeness
    The Impossiblity Of Interest

  • PaulPogues

Shunt be in a fuckin wank band then!

  • monkeywithagun

Well, at least Mark can play the claw machine once at Walmart.

  • Rakasta

all of this would have been avoided had they written more songs in the vein of Satan’s Wizard.

  • cj13owe

This amuses me, some dude tried to rip Mark and gets owned…then does a major backpedal.

    • mad_hiddy

yeah, because I misinterpreted him, and admitted it. I guess that’s sort of amusing. Nobody was owned either. It was all a misunderstanding, because many other “rockstars” have been posting nonsense lately.

      • cj13owe

It’s ok dude we all have bad days.

    • ethos

This entire comments section is one of the most amusing things I’ve seen on this site in a while.

      • revstevo

i know! hiddy getting called out might be theprp highlight of 2012

  • kturl69

In 1930, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, in an effort to alleviate the effects of the… Anyone? Anyone?… the Great Depression, passed the… Anyone? Anyone? The tariff bill? The Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act? Which, anyone? Raised or lowered?… raised tariffs, in an effort to collect more revenue for the federal government. Did it work? Anyone? Anyone know the effects? It did not work, and the United States sank deeper into the Great Depression. Today we have a similar debate over this. Anyone know what this is? Class? Anyone? Anyone? Anyone seen this before? The Laffer Curve. Anyone know what this says? It says that at this point on the revenue curve, you will get exactly the same amount of revenue as at this point. This is very controversial. Does anyone know what Vice President Bush called this in 1980? Anyone? Something-d-o-o economics. “Voodoo” economics.

    • G Scotty

For dry, red eyes….clear eyes is awesome

      • kturl69

        Bueller?… Bueller?… Bueller?

    • BlueBalls

Should I explain why kturl’s post is intellectually dishonest?

Part of me wants to. The other part realizes this shit is way off topic and no one here is taking what he said seriously anyways.

      • kturl69

I was clearly watching Ferris Bueller at the time of this post but go ahead and enlighten me BlueBalls. I’m no expert politician but I’ve read some of your posts and you seem to be.

I hope you’re voting Romney in the upcoming election.

      • ethos

because relevance to you clearly equals relevance to this site.

  • nickygoods

i thoroughly enjoy chimaira just as a matter of personal opinion since we’re all dishing em’ out right now. But it’s a matter of fact that the music industry has always been a shithole to put it lightly which is why i just played music wherever my band was welcomed, a “hobby” if you will, music is life but its rare you’ll ever make a living off of it so all diatribe aside most of us work shitty jobs because of a promise of pay and an idea of what we will make/ how much we will work. But none of us are flocking to Mcdonald’s in hopes of making a bright financial future for ourselves and families.

  • SSHL

Damn! That’s Spineshank money right there!

  • Slipping On Noise

Haha, every time that mad_hiddy guy says something it ends up being a complete joke. Anyway, back to the topic. I really hope Chimaira doesn’t go downhill after everything that they have gone through. This next album will determine a lot, in my opinion. Rob and Andols really had a lot of what made that bands sound and they may very well have taken it with them when they left.
