Oceano’s Unreleased Cover Of Jimi Hendrix’s “Machine Gun” Available
Oceano‘s previously unreleased cover of “Machine Gun” by Jimi Hendrix has been making the rounds online, complete with a less than flattering backstory. The song was originally recorded for the “Homefront: Songs For Resistance” compilation, though it wound up not being used.
The song was posted by Bota-Werks—an Illinois-based recording studio who shared the following insight behind the song:
“Enjoy a unreleased track by Oceano that covered Jimi Hendrix “Machine Gun” for the Homefront Soundtrack. Because Earache Records got up front money to be given to the band and studio but as all great record companies do they never paid out the band nor BOTA for recording and mixing this song we figure lets let the world hear it for FREE. Thanks Earache Records for spending our money!!”

Century Media did the same thing to AGATG and Winds of Plague on that compilation.
Wow, if I was heading Earache, I wouldn’t pay them either. They butchered one of the greatest songs of all time here.

Yeah other than lifting the signature riff, they didn’t seem to explore the structure of the original, which in the end, is going to be hard live up to anyway. Band of Gypsys is classic, but definetely find the version of “Hear My Train” from that recording.
I’m thoroughly disgusted. Can’t wait for the Suicide Silence version of Little Wing.
You sure this isn’t Killswitch?
I may have to go to confession after listening to this atrocity of sound.
Sigh, what did I expect from a deathcore cover.
Exactly. Is there even a way to do a deathcore cover correctly?
Usually not without mangling it.
