Anthrax’s Joey Belladonna Pays Tribute To The Troops With Soldier’s Helmet Cam At “Mayhem Fest”

Anthrax frontman Joey Belladonna paid tribute to the troops at the bands August 03rd Mansfield, MA stop of the “Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival“. Belladonna called a helmet cam clad U.S. soldier who was in attendance to the stage and proceeded to wear the cam while performing the bands track “I Am The Law“.

He later encouraged the crowd to cheer for the military during the songs breakdown before handing the helmet back to the fan. You can watch the resulting footage from the helmet camera below. Meanwhile, the fan himself recounted the experience as follows:

“I was wearing the helmetcam during Mayhem Fest. Then, during the Anthrax show Joey called me to the stage and I gave him the helmet. It was one of the best days of my life. Big shout out to the Shrapnel for making it all possible. I AM THE LAW!”

How can you be proud of a military that hasn’t won a single war they’ve started, since the 1800′s? How is that in any way “cool” or “hip”? Or is it that the terrorists who “attacked” NYC won and they’re celebrating? Celebrating the loss of their freedoms that ol’ hillbilly Bush spoke about? I just don’t understand what they have to celebrate? More dead and/or suicidal troops? A civil war in Iraq? The theft of poppy fields in Afghanistan? I’m not even being sarcastic, I’d really like to know what the fascination is.

You know what should be celebrated motherfucker? The fact that I as well as hundreds of thousand more troops have spent entire years in Afghanistan protecting the freedoms you have so you can share your dipshit opinion. You don’t like it? Then get the fuck out of my country that I’ve bled for. While people like you have never lifted a fucking finger to fight for anything, we’re over there fighting for you. You’re welcome.

        • Military here as well. But I must say it’s that stupid attitude and mentality of GotsTaGetMines that irritates me. Do you honestly think we are in the Middle East because we are fighting to defend freedoms and liberties for people back here in the US? Fuck no, but that’s what’s fed to the masses.

Mad_Hiddy is right, every war during modern times has been bullshit, especially Vietnam. Research the Gulf of Tonkin incident and see how our own government falsified documents so we could justify and attack on the Vietnamese. You think times have changed? No.

Damn, I agree with Hiddy and Wurst? Odd.

Every war we’ve fought since the Spanish American War was for imperialistic reasons. There were major economic implications in every case. We pick and choose what conflicts to be involved in based on what we have to gain from it.

Lets be honest, people willingly join the military for a living wage, medical benefits, free college, etc. in return for performing a dangerous job that could take their life. I get it and I don’t blame the troops for trying to make a better life for themselves. I know they aren’t the ones calling the shots. I just don’t feel compelled to kiss their asses either. The nations of Iraq and Afghanistan were not a threat to my freedom and it saddens me that people have fought and died under the assumption that they were.

        • BlueBalls…you completely nailed it on your last paragraph. However, there is a small portion that joined because they truly think they are fighting to defend our country, which is a crock of shit.

“Stupid attitude and mentality”, just because I believe in what I do and I’m proud to serve my country? If you are in fact military (which I doubt you are), first of all you are a disgrace to all others who wear the uniform. Second, I hope you are stationed in Fort Hood. I’ll be more than happy to beat the living shit out of you. Thumbs down the fuck out of me. I don’t care. I’m sure there are plenty of people who would love if you disappeared.

Nowhere in either of my other posts did I say you do/ do not have serve with pride. However, we are brothers in arms. Theprp probably doesn’t see much of this, but I would like to apologize for threatening you in my previous post. I was rather heated from some of the things that mad_hiddy said. I then felt like you were attacking me in your first post. That still doesn’t excuse the comments I myself made. Although I do not share your views, I do respect your opinion. Sorry for being a dick

You are doing nothing but reinforcing the mentality Wurst and many other individuals have in regards to those who serve. I’d much rather salute a doctor, police officer, or fireman because they lack the sense of entitlement that you guys carry around with you.

        • @GetMines…it’s all good, bro. My initial response to you came out a little dickheadish as well.

@Adamonfire…scratch police officer from your list and I agree. However, I still think you should have support and respect for troops. If you’re infantry, it’s a fucked up job that most don’t have the guts or balls to do. You could argue that same point for police officers but there’s only one reason people become police officers, and it’s not to protect and serve.

I respect them just as I respect any other individual. I’m not going to stand up and clap when they walk past me at the airport, but I’ll say please and thank you just as I would to the high school kid working behind the counter at Taco Bell.

I never asked you to go anywhere & fight for me so please don’t say you’re fighting for me. You’re fighting because that’s the job you signed up to do, I’m glad you like it though. I just don’t think people that sign up to kill others should be celebrated. Also specifically what freedoms of mine are you protecting? Last I checked it was my own government rather than the Iraqis or Afghanis that are taking my rights away. So actually it seems you’re derelict in your duties to defend the Constitution. Also just because some people don’t kill others doesn’t mean they’ve never fought for anything.

Lateraleye, the assertion that all people signing up for the military “do so so they can shoot people” is absolutely absurd.

Without the aforementioned statement of absolute ridiculousness, you might have been on the path to making a decent point.

        • @Lateraleye…You didnt ask us to fight for you? Nobody said you did, asshole. Did you ask the motherfuckers at the water treatment plant to not shit in your water supply? No, but they were gracious enough to not do it. Although, now I wish they would shit in your water supply, you ingrate.

@MFL, To be fair I never said all people who join up want to kill people and I certainly didn’t mean to imply they did. I probably coulda phrased that one better. Some do though & a majority of them are special forces & they seem to get a lot of the praise. Just look at the attention given to SEAL Team 6 for OBL & the Rangers, Delta, for Somalia etc. Also everyone who does sign up is essentially saying they are willing to, if need be or they are ordered (lawfully), to kill other people. I’m just not sure I see a difference between mercenaries and soldiers other than who gives the orders.

@Wurst, I never said you did but when people make statements like: “we’re over there fighting for you” (GotsTa…) it certainly implies that I should be grateful for it without considering that I would’ve never wanted or asked them to. People are over there fighting because they chose to be so why should I be thankful? No one thanks me or as you point out, water treatment workers for doing the job they & I chose to do.

Specifically my right to privacy has been affected by the PATRIOT Act among other pieces of legislation, my right to free speech has been impacted by “free speech zones”, DUI laws can force you to provide evidence against yourself or suffer punishment if you refuse which goes against the 5th Amendment, the NSAs Echelon program is a huge violation of privacy, drug laws like asset seizures go against the whole concept of innocent until proven guilty & they also interfere with my private property (my body), to name a few

I agree that War is an archaic and barbaric practice(as is the death penalty). I agree that our government and military need to mind their own business. However, the soldiers don’t have much of a choice in the matter(besides the choice to join the military in the first place), and the disposition that Hiddy takes regarding this matter is a pretty shitty one.

the irony here is that you apparently fought for the freedoms of others, but yet you don’t think it’s okay for us to have the freedom of opinion? Get the fuck out of here man. you’re a selfish, easily agitated asshole who’s crying because someone doesn’t like what you do. And btw, I didn’t say anything about the SOLDIER, you ass-head. I was speaking about the Military Industrial complex your country keeps cunting down all our throats. Go have a cold shower.

oh and one last thing…if me disliking the fact that our armies are over there killing women and children makes me an asshole, then consider me King of Assholes because that’s literally all we’re doing over there (aside from stealing their resources, and selling them to the masses at much higher rates and spreading Western hatred and Islamaphobia). There is NOTHING brave about spreading fear, death and tyranny in a country that doesn’t want you there in the first place. If anything, it’s cowardice. You can threaten me all day long, and I don’t care about your apologies because people like you are RUNNING America.

      • I’m going to go ahead an assume that you’ve never been in the military. So that would mean that you’ve obviously never deployed. So that would mean that you’re knowledge is based off of some biased news channel that reports whatever they choose to and not actual facts. It really is hard to listen to civilians talk about something which they know nothing about. I’ve been on 3 separate combat tours to Iraq. So if you want some knowledge on the happenings of a war torn country, ask someone who has been there. Not some millionaire news commentator. The fact that you said that “killing women and children makes me an asshole, then consider me King of Assholes because that’s literally all we’re doing over there” proves your ignorance and the fact that your a snobby presumptuous cock. I have personally been on missions to deliver supplies to rebuild home and schools. To drop off cash to people so that they can build a new power station for their city. Things like these happen all of the time. Do people that aren’t supposed to get killed get killed anyway? Yes they do. It’s a cold hard reality that comes from War and combat. But to say that that’s what we are purposely doing over there every day, is ignorant. Also just a note at the end, nobody told you to celebrate anything. I’ve been a Marine for 8 years and I’ve never once asked for recognition or a high five or anything like that. Do I appreciate it when it comes my way? Of course. Do I ask for it? No. Seriously man, get over yourself.

Trash the military all you want but at least they are trying. Humans are a competitive and warring species by nature. Take the blinders off and get with reality. There will always be a war on this planet and somebody has to fight it. I would much rather salute the troops that are actually putiing their asses on the line for something that changes actual lives than worship all these fucking athletes in the Olympics for example. The true solution imho is for us (America) to take care of our own problems within our own borders. Fuck the rest of the world. Fight your own fight. Americas main problem is that we always have to stick our fucking noses into foreign land’s business. It is mostly for financial security more than our moral obligation to the world at large. I am not President though and I never would want to be in the first place for that matter. Rant all you want about the war. You are wasting your time. If you meet a member of the military in the future, shake their hand, look them in the eye, and tell them thanks for their service. End of fucking story.

      • And please don’t ask “What was it like? Did you have to kill anyone?”

Yes, I have a feeling the United States will always be involved in a war from this point on. Times have changed, a lot things have changed with the way the world operates. So all you naive kids wanting to enlist as infantry to get that nice $20k signing bonus (if it’s even offered anymore) and not expecting to be deployed, think again.
