Emmure’s Frankie Palmeri Addresses Cold Soul Merch Line Controversy

Emmure frontman Frankie Palmeri has addressed the recent controversy surrounding his Cold Soul merch line. Metal Insider got their hands on the following statement from Palmeri regarding the matter:

“Hello everyone, first of all I would like for you all to know that it wasn’t All In Merch who shut down the store. It was entirely my decision for the webstore to be removed and all Cold Soul orders be terminated, All In Merch played no hand in the “shutting down” of my Cold Soul webstore.

Now, the question is raised. Why?

Why did I decide to overnight shut down a project that I put my time and faith in to? And to many who might not believe or want to was a growing business for me and was succeeding more and more on a daily basis.

Let me say before continuing that the goal of Cold Soul merchandise was not to be promote bigotry, racism, or exploit the pain and loss of others. I do not condone violence against people no matter what race or creed.

With that being said, I also do not act like these things are not going on in the world around me.

There is something to be said about the things that occur in our life time that shape and mold our moral values and feelings, my clothing line was a direct reflection of that. I am no stranger to loss, sadness, or hatred. I used Cold Soul merchandise as a way to circumvent those feelings and turn it into something people can stand behind.

We live in a society that is constantly shoving in our face the harsh reality’s we live in through mass media. News reports of death, murder, social decay have become the norm and the information age and I for one do not shun or act like it is some kind of fantasy.

We cringe from the thought of real life catastrophes but will spend hard earned money to watch these things re-enacted in film, on television, and an even more interactive medium, video games. Everyone being fine with offensive material, until it actually offends, IS the joke.

Even as I am writing this, I am watching an action movie, with an over the top amount of senseless, tasteless violence. But I understand that this is a product of entertainment. It is something to be bought and sold based on supply and demand.

Not everyone has to enjoy this product, but there is a market for it none the less. I am sure there are people who probably would not be able to sit through what I just witnessed and that is OK. Maybe they are sensitive to what is happening on screen and that is fine. No one is forcing them to think that this is cinematic art. Which it is.

The shirts were made to be offensive. They were made so people would remember harsh realities. They were made to attract notice, and they have. To say that they reflect racism or bigotry of any kind though, is absurd. Searching for things to be personally offended by in something that’s whole basis was to offend in the first place, not only shows that the point missed you completely, but also that you’re part of the satire I was originally trying to disrupt in commercializing these images.Let me get this straight with everyone, I know am hated. That’s fine, that’s more so to the point, actually. I do not need to be loved by everyone, I think I would have a much harder time coping with reality if I went through life expecting everyone to understand me or what I do or how I feel.

In an age where gore and death and horrible past occurrences have been trivialized down by band names, movies, media banter, and in reality, just people striving to become the next front runner by exploiting these things, I wanted to bring the cold realness of things back to life.

Maybe I succeeded too well, maybe I was preaching to sheep so well herded that they missed how life works and what matters, and what is really offensive or not. Or maybe I actually just offended a large portion of people that I didn’t intend to.

I’m never trying to encourage or create new bullying or prejudice to any sort of group or race or class or gender or anyone. But for whatever reason, if that’s what people are taking from the line, or getting out of what I’ve made… then THAT is why I removed the webstore.”

dance around this however you like but those shirts speak for themselves. what they say perpetuates the ignorance of idiots that think that kind of crap is edgy or synonymous with making some sort of BOLD cultural statement. finally called out on your bullshit. think about this what we’re saying and reevaluate your high school mentality ….or good riddance.

So you didn’t mean to profit off of a shirt based around the Columbine shooting? AKA exploiting the pain & loss of others for your own financial benefit
The shirt that says “Shoot first ask questions last” wasn’t promoting violence?
Associating Arabic writing with being a threat to national security isn’t bigoted or racist?

You’re a twat and your shirts are dumb.

        • Every other article on this site is about Randy Blythe so I’m not sure which one you’re talking about. How many thumbs down are we talking here?

What the fuck is that even supposed to mean? Does he have any clue as to the definition of “satire”?

“Why did I decide to overnight shut down a project that I put my time and faith in to?”

      - Because this is what Frankie does. Remember True Vision Management? Remember False Prophet Records? How long did that all last? Frankie is a flake, plain and simple.

    • “missed how life works.” there was a shirt with a columbine scene on it… That’s not how life works, that’s being ignorant to american families feelings.

    • I haven’t seen the gear, but irony is often lost on the masses. I recall a Pink Floyd show where a stadium full of people singing, ” we don’t need no education!” and thinking, “I don’t think this is what Roger Waters had in mind.”

It still has typos and also just some bad writing in general: “Why did I decide to overnight shut down a project that I put my time and faith in to? And to many who might not believe or want to was a growing business for me and was succeeding more and more on a daily basis.” So yeah, I believe he at least had a hand it in.

if he was making dough I doubt he would have taken it down he would have used this an opportunity to launch his own site and profit off the increased attention to his brand. Controversy breeds demand.

    • Obviously this fella never understood the meaning of contradiction.

He’s clearly 2 bricks short of a shit house if he believe’s half of what he writes.

So basically, “I don’t care what people think of me or if they don’t understand me, but people took the clothing line wrong and don’t understand me/think worse of me, so I’m shutting it down.”

    • I stopped reading after the second small paragraph. There is nothing he can say that justifies his reasoning for putting shit like that on a shirt, nothing. I’ll say again, will somebody please beat the shit out of this guy already?

Just once I’d like for this guy to go a step even further and end up on the FBI’s radar under whatever classification they so choose. Normally I hate the FEDs but in his case, i’ll gladly make an about face. Let him catch a case and do some time…then his cellmate will be the one watching Frankie suck a dick and loving it. And he’ll shoot first (on frankie’s face) and ask questions last (was it good for you?).

I feel like it doesn’t even matter what Frankie does. You guys just love to hate him. I’m not going to go as far as saying that I believe his shirts were ‘okay,’ but I do feel that it is just a t-shirt. Music and movies offend people the same way those shirts do. At the end of the day it is just a shirt. In his response as to why he shut his own merch down, he said “We live in a society that is constantly shoving in our face the harsh reality’s we live in through mass media. News reports of death, murder, social decay have become the norm.” Just as violence has become the norm, having someone there to complain about every single thing imaginable has become the norm. Let’s all just go file a lawsuit against Frankie, because our vaginas are bleeding… Only in America

When has this Frankie douch done anything actually good? That’s why we hate him. Yeah violence is normal but an offensive movie that u have to seek out and sit down to watch and violent offensive music that u have to play is not going to offend as many people as a dude wearing a tee promoting domestic terrorism. If your family was at the batman movie then you see an asshole with a straight brim douchbag hat with the sticker still on wearing this tee your going to be offended and hurt.

    • I’m sensing bullshit in Frankie’s statement. He had no way of defending his cause by saying ‘…he knows real violence’ because he doesn’t. Who is Emmure’s target audience? Spoiled middle class shithead kids from the suburbs who hate their parents. He thought he could tackle a product which was aimed at both who he is and who is more than likely to see any value in it said spoiled kids.
Once the band saw how much integrity was destroyed by such a thing, his manager steps in and whips up some pro life commentary that probably didn’t come out of his mouth in the first place. I know how the industry works. This was nothing more than a marketing ploy that the label reps knew would damage his security in whatever sports drink sponsors his tour.
I hope I don’t get flamed when I say that I used to dig a few Emmure tunes and have seen them live once or twice. That was of course until I read his lyrics and saw his attitude live. Thriving off drama and exgirlfriends from highschool is low enough. This just crosses it.
      End rant.

I’d wear the shirts. People wear shirts with the planes crashing into the twin towers. Same fucking shit. People are mad about the words more than the pictures. If u don’t like Frankie or Emmure, stop reading shit about them. & ur wasting your time commenting too. You all look fucking lame. Frankie, I love your sexy ass! I hope you guys come back to Ohio!
