Disturbed’s David Draiman On Chick-Fil-A Controversy: “What Happened To The Land Of The Free?”
Disturbed‘s David Draiman has weighed in with his thoughts regarding the controversial viewpoints on same-sex marriage held by the ”Chick-Fil-A” chain of restaurants. The chains negative stance has seen both the politicial right and left hold their own forms of protest in recent months.
Speaking via his Twitter he stated:
“WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LAND OF THE FREE? WHAT HAPPENED TO FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION, SPEECH, AND RELIGION? ITS MY HUMBLE OPINION THAT BOTH THE LEFT AND THE RIGHT ARE WRONG ON THIS ONE.
THE REST OF THE WORLD IS WATCHING US AND LAUGHING (AGAIN) WHILE THE RIGHT RALLIES IN SUPPORT OF THE CHICK FIL A CEO AND CHAIN (WHOM I MAY NOT AGREE WITH, BUT WHO’S FREEDOM OF SPEECH IS PROTECTED BY THE CONSISTUTION), ONCE AGAIN TRYING TO SHOVE THEIR IDEAS AND VALUES DOWN THE REST OF THE COUNTRY’S THROAT; AND THE LEFT, HOLDING A KISS IN, SHOVING THIER WAY OF LIFE (A LIFE I COMPLETELY SUPPORT AND WHICH THEY ARE ENTITLED TO) IN THE COUNTRY’S FACE AS WELL.
GROW UP PEOPLE. LET PEOPLE LIVE THEIR OWN LIVES. WORRY ABOUT YOUR OWN LIVES. EVERYONE CALM DOWN AND SHUT THE FUCK UP.CAN’T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG? JEEZ.”

COMMENTS
oh right, spell check doesn’t work with all caps. DMB FGT.
“WORRY ABOUT YOUR OWN LIVES. EVERYONE CALM DOWN AND SHUT THE FUCK UP.” LOL.
Lol the irony… as if he is worrying about his own life and shutting the fuck up
He’s right though. People are bitching about a fried chicken mogul. What the fuck?!
For once he makes sense. I agree with the dude. I’m sick of people bitching about what other people do or say. People need to worry about their own lives and mind their business. Personally, I’m all for gay marriage and it has nothing to do how ridiculous I think religion is. I’m sick of people weighing in with moral opinions strictly based off their religion and not using common fucking sense.
word, wurst.
All well and good except that this isn’t a freedom of speech issue, it’s an issue of a company donating $5 million per year towards hate groups that in some cases travel overseas as “missionaries” to countries where in many cases being gay is illegal or even punishable by death, just to make sure those countries continue harming gay people.
I honestly think everyone who claims they like gay people but is on the “everyone shut up about Chick-Fil-A” bandwagon is just upset because they like the food more than they want to help gay people.
awesome name
First, I dont really like their food and have never even walked into one of their restaurants in my life. I’m not big on fast food. Second, I dont care who they donate their money to. It’s their hard-earned money, not mine, and it’s not my place to bitch about where they spend it. It sucks there are so many idiotic people in this world, like the Chik-Fil-A supporters, but there’s nothing I can do to change their simple, little minds.
Technically there is something you can do: not eat there and try to convince others not to eat there too.
Because when money from YOU goes to Chick-Fil-A and then money from Chick-Fil-A goes to hate groups, that means your money went to hate groups. It contributed.
At least you don’t already eat there or like their food. My fat ass LOVED eating there and I am no longer doing so. However it helps that there are a lot of other places around where I live that have the same kind of food available. I could only imagine the conundrum I’d have if I lived in a small town where Chick-Fil-A was the only restaurant. I might actually be forced to cook for myself!
Haha nice. Like I said, I really dont eat fast food.
Second, I really don’t feel like spending my precious time jumping on the bandwagon with the rest of the idiots, attempting to “spread the word” about not eating at a place because their head honcho is an idiot. I just dont care enough. I’ll leave that to the college kids who have the luxury of not having to work and spend all day acting as if they’re truly involved in social/political matters. Damn hipsters, smh.
wurst, you dominating on this string of blurbs. For real
“Because when money from YOU goes to Chick-Fil-A and then money from Chick-Fil-A goes to hate groups” I don’t know much about business or corporations but every Chic fil a restaurant is privately owned, so I’m guessing if Chic fil a is getting profits from it’s restaurants it’s a very small fraction, and theres pretty much douche baggery on both sides http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPLNgkP9nzc&feature=youtu.be
Sorry Fred, Chick-Fil-A keeps 65% of the profit.
Ketaset…your sarcasm is appreciated, sir or madam.
Fred…Chick isnt like McDonalds. I dont believe each store is privately owned.
Wurst I was actually serious., seeing a side I never seens from you, I’m black either, tho my writing may insinuate it.
*nots
I want to give this a million thumbs up. If you are sane and support a gay person’s right to marry then don’t give in to eating there. They use your money to fund hate. If you don’t support that then don’t support the chicken bigots. This is exactly why religion is the worst thing on this planet, it simply just slows down the evolution of the human race.
First, lmao @ “WHAT HAPPENED TO FREE SPEECH?” followed by some bitching about “SHOVING IDEAS DOWN THE REST OF THE COUNTRY’S THROAT”, and finally “EVERYONE SHUT THE FUCK UP.” Ah, Davey, such a crusader for the 1st Amendment.
This controversy is “the land of the free” in action. The Chick-Fil-A dude publicly stated his opinion on gay marriage. After he opened his mouth, some of the better fact-checkers out there quickly learned that Chick-Fil-A donates to some pretty serious anti-LGBT hate groups while previous employees have come out with stories of discrimination. Progressives and tolerant people alike used their right to free speech in order to make this known while calling for a boycott the of the restaurant chain. The anti-gay people exercised their right to free speech by gobbling up millions of chicken sandwiches. No voice was stifled or suppressed here.
Read it again. Draiman said, while he doesnt agree with his stance, he recognizes the dude’s right to freedom of speech and his personal belief/opinion and for errbody to shut the fuck up and move on.
That’s my point. Free speech means that people don’t have to shut the fuck up and move on. If the CEO has the right to offer his personal belief/opinion, then anyone who agrees or disagrees also has that right.
He wasnt being literal. He was basically telling all the people who are in an uproar over his comments to chill the fuck out and if you dont like someone else’s comments then fuck yourself, that’s life.
Marriage is a civil rights issue for gay people. Not a minor thing. I understand why they don’t want to simply “go fuck themselves because that’s life.” I’m glad they were outraged. They used the situation to expose the fact that Chick-Fil-A donates millions to anti-gay organizations, the same types that try to use religion to “cure the gays” and they also routinely fire employees for “sinful behavior,” aka, being gay. As someone who just stated how sick you were of people using religion instead of common sense, it seems like you would empathize.
Either way, just as both sides deserve the right to express their opinion, you and Draiman have the right not to listen.
I think there’s some miscommunication between you and I. I believe we’re on the same page but we’re not reading it that way. I agree with you.
Yeah I agree with a lot of what you said, just not the part about letting the comments go. I think the dissenting opinion needed to be expressed in this situation. That’s all.
Funny, if all of these so-called Christians showing up in droves to support this Chick-Fil-A buttplug put more effort into actually helping people instead of spreading hatred, they would qualify as *actual* Christians.
To quote Hellraiser: “Jesus wept.”
To quote Rob Flynn: “Jeeesus wept!”
Chick-Fil-A serves up some tasty chicken sandwiches. Peanut oil is key in the cooking process. The meat is so moist that it literally melts in your mouth.
That’s what she said.
Nothings gonna ever stop me from eating mah Chic- Fil – Ey!
Rather amusing that it took the CEO to publicly state the companys stance on Gays for people to start protesting. When it had been patently obvious for years.
That was my biggest gripe with the whole ordeal. I am a conservative who supports gays having the right to marry, but I have issue with this Facebook fad of a protest. All this is, is KONY Late Summer 2012. If I come across someone who has been protesting CFA for the past decade, I’ll shake their hand and tell them good job. Oh, and I actually researched who CFA gave money to. There are no hate groups. They just have different beliefs and have actually done a lot of good for orphans and needy families. I am growing tired of the notion that anyone who does not agree with someone else’s way of thinking is full of hate and intolerance.
You haven’t researched enough then. Look into WinShape, Chick-Fil-A’s “charitable” arm. Their records are public and they have given millions to places like the Family Research Council, the American Family Association and Exodus International. These are in fact anti-gay hate groups, unless you don’t take The Southern Poverty Law Center’s word for it.
This isn’t anything like Kony. This is a case where awareness can actually bring about change. Though CFA had a big spike in sales for their appreciation day, those numbers aren’t sustainable. The religious nuts will forget about this next week but the civil rights advocates will not.
While I know that they will not have lines down the street every day, I highly doubt the civil rights advocates will continue this fight. Yea, I’m sure the hardcore ones that fight everyday will, but this massive backlash by people simply liking statuses on FB will forget about it once the episode of Jersey Shore comes on.
As far as them being hate groups, what have they done that would classify them as being a hate group? The only thing anti-gay that the AFA has credited is a failed piece of 2006 legislation that would add a constitutional definition of marriage. Just because someone doesn’t approve of a lifestyle doesn’t classify them as a hate group. Westboro Baptist – that is a hate group. While I don’t agree with anyone who would limit the marriage rights of a group of people, I don’t consider them a hate group, just ignorant. I used to be against gay marriage myself, but then I got to know a few gay people and opened myself up to looking at both sides. I also became more conservative in the realm of governmental control and would only be a hypocrite if I wanted the government controlling lifestyles that I don’t agree with. (as long as they don’t interfere with anyone else’s liberties)
There’s only one in the state that I know of, and when I was down in Texas I never paid to eat there (I did use a punchcard for free campus food there, though) as anyone with a shred of common sense should know that is how they feel – oh, they close on Sunday and you’re just starting to piece this together?
Being as we don’t have them here (we just recently got Sonic, too) we stopped in at one on our way down to Florida. When I asked the girl behind the counter for “mayo only” she gave me a bunch of ‘tude and instructed me that they don’t put anything on their food and that I need to do it all myself. What lazy assholes.
Plus they have the shittiest chicken nuggets in the biz.
Stay away from Sonic, it’s garbage, except those tasty ass jalapeno poppers.
It wouldn’t be that big of a deal if they weren’t “pro-gay”, but it’s the fact that they lobby for groups that want to literally “get rid of” homosexuals across America. Homosexuals and those who side with them will continue to stick up for themselves as long as there are people out there who can’t mind THEIR own business.
EOD
100% agree with you Hiddy. Guess there is a first time for everything.
Gay people do not deserve to have the same rights that I do… didn’t we go through this type of thing already in the 60s? Fuck Chick Fil A. They can say whatever ignorant statement that they want, but I’ll make my own damn chicken, egg, and cheese biscuits from now on. Disturbed sucks.
Humor…fail.
Troll…win!
I think the whole fact that this is a hugely divisive issue is total bullshit. And it always falls from the mouths of the uber conservative to the doorsteps of people living on the fringe. Ive had this thought in my mind the past 2 years: gay marriage is akin to separate but equal – and being considered “an abomination against god” just for being who you are, is like being called a nigger. It just seethes with irony how the most devout of religious people spend so much time hating those that are different from them, as opposed to ignoring it, or just plain condemning others for it. And how fucking stupid is it to devote large sums of money and precious time to persecute people for being themselves in this day and age? It almost makes me wish that all these right wingers would have a freddy kreuger style nightmare where they find themselves trapped in a country run by an atheist king who executes them for believing in god. Just to make them feel the fury of their own hate in come uppance.
Can imagine what this country would be like if someone like michelle bachman was president?, her and that gay curing closet case of a husband of hers. there’d be homosexual death camps and burning lower case letter t’s on the white house lawn
Can’t we all just unlock our CAPS?
Dem niggas at Popeyes, Bo Jangles, & KFC would never say some dumb shit them niggas like money and I love chicken! All I need is to do is smoke a bowl and get a KFC bowl, oooooooh weeeeee dats a good day!
mufucka get up why don’t you get down wif some chedda biscuits! U fucka get up come on down an try these biscuits!
Wook you’re hilarious, as a fellow Canadian this is a complete farce. This company lobbies to take away people’s right, who gives a shit if your gay, who cares. The states are so backwards right now it’s completely insane, you guys are literally the laughing stock of the western world.
Chik-Fil-A may like Gay people, but KFC does.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MODI6M_eQ30
Ment to say Chik-Fil-A may not like gay people, but KFC does.
Anyone heard of OPEC? Has the gay community stopped buying gas yet?
I actually agree with David for once. Everyone should stfu. Both parties are wrong.
I’m a married man with 3 kids but I support the gay community 110%. Love should conquer all no matter if you are a man and love a man or whatever. Fucking religion has been destroying this world for centuries. Like Dr. House M.D. once said “If you could reason with religious people there would be no religious people”
right but can we hear it from someone else besides this attention whore? and no i don’t mean randy, greg, or scott.
but i like greg.
I think a lot of it was misinterpreted too. The reasons the lines were so long was because probably about half the people were there to support a private company from government intrusion. Which has nothing to do with gay marriage or religious views. That’s why I went. Not everyone that went was pushing the religious aspect. Some were just standing up for free speech.
I’m from Chicago, the year 2012 and I live two blocks from the mecca of gayness, Wrigly Field…What the fuck is a Chick Fil A ?
Correction. The mecca of gayness is Fenway Park.
You are opening Pandora’s Box by making a declarative statement like that.
The mecca of gayness is Fenway Park.
Fenway is pretty gay too but Wrigly is two blocks from Boystown…and yes, I realize that makes me two blocks from Boystown as well but unlike whatever this Chick Fil A says, I’m fine with gay marriage…I suggest a merging of Wrigly and Fenway, the biggest gay marriage of them all.
Yeah, I have to agree both sides were silly on this. I grew up in what many would label as a traditional, Christian, Conservative home- military at that. Yet nobody in my family even to this day- gives a crap about race or who is gay. My neighbors are gay- they’re good people, and I’m glad they’re my neighbors, and friend-they get extra points because they’re gamers, and one of em is a military veteran like myself.
I get annoyed when people get into the social Conservatism crap- that’s one thing I wish Republicans would move away from, as it was not originally apart of the Republican party.
