All That Remains’ Phil Labonte: “Let The Blogs Talk Shit, While They Take Money From Labels…”
All That Remains frontman Phil Labonte had some pointed words for his fellow metal frontmen who don’t speak their mind in fear of backlash; and the metal blogosphere who trash him for voicing his opinions.
Speaking via his Facebook, he offered:
“Got a FB email that said “random metal blog” said you hide behind Facebook. I submit that MOST (not all) frontmen hide behind their own band. Not willing to be honest, they’re just spineless and won’t really divulge their opinion in the fear that it may affect their band or record sales.
Now, there are a lot of honest people who really don’t have an opinion about most things, and that’s cool. I’m not here to judge them. But for those who have an opinion and won’t say what it is cause they are afraid of the possibility of negative effects, I say FUCK THAT.
I’m just as much a normal guy as any of you are. I am worth no more, and no less, than any of you reading this. So let the blogs talk shit, while they take money from labels, to promote the records, by the bands who they shit on, while they profit from talking shit about them. That’s the system, and fuck the system.”

I don’t know what kind of music you listen to but synchronized headbanging is the shit. Screamo is a genre, not an adjective, and since when is choreography ever a bad thing?

Phil hasn’t released music music since “This Darkened Heart” which was one of the best metal records of the fucking year in my opinion. This rant is nonsensical, whine for the sake of whine.
This Darkened Heart was fucking awesome. Everything since then… I mean, the formula’s there, it just doesn’t have any heart.

He has spoken. Let it be known among the masses in the villages. Scream this from the rooftops until your vocal chords are bleeding. Chances are very good that you will still sound better than Phil after doing so.

I respect Phil. The music industry truely lacks people who honestly speak what is on their minds. You may argue you don’t like their music – unrelated to what he brings up.
I know Phil on a personal level and the dude is one of the most down to earth musicians I’ve ever met. Hate the guy but he wrote 90% of the first album (on guitar) which most people here really like.

I wouldn’t say they’re spineless, they just don’t want to be giant douchebags and say ignorant things that bring down the appearance of the band as a whole, like SOME dickbags in metal tend to do. Hint. Hint. HINT.
Some artists tend to lean towards letting the music speak for itself, instead of picking fights online and calling people “faggots”. Throwing caution to the wind and saying every stupid goddamn thing that comes to mind isn’t always the best decision there Phil.

Um, he’s correct I guess? I’m not sure any of this really needed to be said though. The blogs offer opinions (often negative) of music. Labels are happy to advertise on blogs in spite of the shit talking, knowing that the information is going directly to their demographic. Pretty obvious stuff here.
The “fuck the system” comment was retarded too. Sure Phil, shit all over the system that pays your bills simply because some mean ol’ bloggers think you suck. Dense bastard.
