Six Feet Under’s Chris Barnes Takes Issue With Dethklok And “Tribute Bullshit”
Six Feet Under frontman Chris Barnes has apparently taken issue with Dethklok and the recent “Death To All Tour“. A newly-made tweet from Barnes reads:
“Is this what the scene has become? Going to see cartoon bands and tribute bullshit? ?#fuckoff?”
He later went on to retweet a Twitter user who posted that Dethklok “cheapens the metal scene.”

Barnes is the most important voice in death metal history. While he should stick to tweeting about smoking weed and playing shows, you should stick to shutting the fuck up, as you clearly know nothing of death metal.

Barnes’ voice is everything to death metal. His work in Cannibal Corpse was above and beyond anything before him (yes, even Chuck). Everything he did, lyrically and vocally revolutionized death metal. Six Feet Under may be hit or miss, but his contribution to death metal history isn’t.

I just love that he’s complaining about what “the scene” has become?? What are you, a 14 year old screamo prick with a swoop complaining about your small town music scene?? Not to mention Brendan Small basically writes everything for those Dethklok albums. Who the fuck cares if he has a cartoon to go along with the band? The music rips, and if you can’t poke fun at yourself then you’re too uptight for your own good. Jealousy is a tough pill to swallow, but the fact is…Dethklok’ music is better than yours.
I love Dethklok because they are a joke and they still kick ass. It’s nice to listen to some metal that doesn’t have to take itself so damn seriously. It’s the same reason I love Austrian Death Machine. It’s nice to be able to laugh and rock out at the same time.

Wow, I just went to the Death to All show Tuesday night here in Chicago…a tribute ? Yeah, I guess but…The show was about honoring a fallen metal hero, a true innovator of the scene and raising money for research. You play Death Metal, Chris Barnes, and have no respect for Death ? You could feel the passion every musician had on stage and none of this was for gimmick. I have seen Death a few times in the day and dare I say, this was better. After over 300 concerts, this was easily the best show I’ve ever seen. Meh, everyone has an opinion I guess.

With that said, I think he’s a pretty rad dude.
I can understand his position on Dethklok even though I think he is wrong – Dethklok is plenty good and probably brings more people to metal due to its humor and Metalocaplyse’s existence on Adult Swim. However, if the “tribute bullshit” is him hating on the Death to All tour, he can go fuck himself.
