Whitechapel’s Phil Bozeman On Skrillex: “I Don’t Get It.”
Whitechapel frontman Phil Bozeman apparently had his first experience with dubstep wunderkind Skrillex. Both Skrillex and Whitechapel performed separate sets at this years “Bamboozle Festival” yesterday, May 18th, in Asbury Park, NJ.
A quick note from Bozeman on his Twitter reads:
“I heard Skrillex for the first time tonight. Good for him for getting big on what he does, but I don’t get it.”
His bandmate Alex Wade was a bit more impressed however, offering:
“Ok. Skrillex live is unbelievable. I mean, I’m not into dub step, but his production is on a level of its own. It’s beyond insane.”
Whitechapel‘s new self-titled album will land in stores on June 19th through Metal Blade.

It sounds cool for the first minute…then it’s just like an hour of wub wub wub.
isn’t it awesome when one terrible thing recognizes another terrible thing?
I have no doubt that Whitechapel could still significantly drop the quality of their mediocre songs by adding dubstep. Good on them for avoiding that bullshit.
my only response to that is that we haven’t heard their new record yet.
You obviously didn’t hear Big Chocolate’s remix of “Breeding Violence” on Whitechapel’s last EP. It’s pretty dubstep-y.
And that, actually, makes Bozeman’s thoughts on Skrillex kind of hypocritical.
Brian I hope you know that the band doesn’t approve of the remixes… the label does, and it doesn’t count because it isn’t a part of the actual album.
When I hear Whitechapel or just about any other “Death-Core” I just don’t get it…
Also, its kinda weird to see the dudes from whitechapel talking classy about other artists. I imagined they’d be huge assholes. Too many artists have been talking way too much shit about other artists lately just trying to rile people up, but judging from these tweets these guys are actually actively trying not to start a shitstorm (I haven’t bothered to check their feeds, so I could be wrong). Way to be. When I want to go to talk shit about some band, i post anonymously on the internet.
Slow news day = Retyping bands’ Twitter thoughts.
I heard Whitechapel for the first time a few months ago. Good for them for getting big on playing uninspired riffs with 3 guitarists who post pointless covers, but I don’t get it.
*golf clap*
I just came back from camping 1 hour north of Vancouver. Beyond playing acoustic around the fire, our playlist last night included Xavier Rudd, Tom Waits, Keys N Krates, Alabama Shakes, Emma Lee and… Skrillex. And it was great. I get it.
