Deftones Bassist Chi Cheng Showing Signs Of Improvement, Now Able To Lift Legs On Command
Deftones bassist Chi Cheng has continued to show some signs of improvement and is now able to lift his legs on command. You can find footage of him doing just that below. Cheng has been in a minimally conscious state since being involved in a 2008 car accident.
An update posted alongside the below footage over at Oneloveforchi.com reads:
“hey all,
here is a video juan (deftones tour manager) sent me of chi lifting his leg by request. you will also hear momma j encouraging him. it’s little baby steps like this that bring chi closer to recovery. he just has to keep trying and working hard at the little things.. eventually more progress will be made.”

yeah being in his condition for 4 years is tough so we should forget about him going back to deftones for now. Hope he keeps getting better.

That is so great to see/hear; hard to believe it’s been 4 years since the accident.
Chi’s a fucking warrior. It’s amazing he’s still alive after all of the infections and “spells” he’s had to endure since the accident. Hopefully this is a sign that all that shit is behind him and his body is now devoting most of its energy to the healing process, rather than to fight off infection.

I heard Diamond Eyes on the way home from work yesterday and it made me think about Eros and Chi and all this stuff going on with his condition. This made me feel way better.
I am inspired by his will and ashamed of myself because I thought my traffic ticket is a big problem.

I have never met Chi in person. Just watched him rock on stage from the crowd. The dude is stronger than I will ever be. Whether rocking on stage or in a bed trying to recover. Good luck boss.

I love Diamond Eyes, but no way do I put it higher than #3. Also, Sergio is a fine replacement. Chi’s basslines are in good hands. I sure miss Chi’s growl though.

Come on dudes. Sergio is the bassplayer for Deftones now. Even with a full recovery, Chi isn’t going back out on tour and leave his family for months at a time after he’s missed out on the past four years of his life.
