Stick To Your Guns Respond To Negative Backlash Over Upcoming Show With Asking Alexandria

Stick To Your Guns have felt the need to defend themselves from the negative criticism they’ve received for their upcoming Halloween show with Asking Alexandria and more.

The band had the following to say about that through their Facebook:

“We’ve been getting a lot of feedback and opinions regarding the show we are playing on Halloween at The Wiltern. Let’s first start off by saying that we are very excited to play this show. We decided to go ahead and play because we enjoy playing shows. Believe it or not, it’s the reason we decided to start a band in the first place. To those of you who are upset, I completely understand.

However, you need to know that the bands we play with will never (NEVER) dictate or influence our behavior or sound. Whether we are playing with Asking Alexandria or Terror, we play shows because it’s what we love to do. We will play to whomever is down to hear us, or with whomever is down to play with us. The people that book our band work very hard to present opportunities like these to us and we are not a band to refuse an offer to play a great Halloween show that is bound to be nothing but a good time. The people that work with us are our friends. They have stood by us since day one and been with us through the good and bad and came out with us when all was said and done.

I’m not here to justify our reasons for playing this show. We shouldn’t have to do that. Here’s the bottom line, if you want to come and hang out on Halloween, cool. We are looking forward to seeing you. If not, then don’t. That’s the beautiful thing about life. It’s full of choices. People even have the choice to come to our Facebook page and say all sorts of horrible things about people you most likely you know nothing about.

We are a band… one of millions. We are people… five of billions. Don’t shit your pants about some small stuff like this. People are starving. Your parents are loosing their homes. Families are falling apart.

The list of things that you should actually be angry about go on and on. We have never and will never be a band to turn down any show because of what another band looks like or sounds like. This is a promise I’ve made to myself and a promise I plan to keep. People have been saying that this will ruin our image. I hope it does.

I hope our image gets ruined over and over again because this band wasn’t started to have an image. Images can fuck themselves. At the end of all of this, what I’m trying to say is if you’re gonna ride with team STYG then ride with us. We are forever more than just surviving. This is my life and this life is my diamond.”

    • I hate it when a band feels like defending themselves, but the band does make a good point. Some Asking Alexandria fans are going to enjoy STYG and STYG is going to have a blast playing. Meh, fuck it. If they’re okay, why aren’t their “fans” okay with it?

Also: “Don’t shit your pants about some small stuff like this. People are starving. Your parents are loosing (sic) their homes. Families are falling apart. The list of things that you should actually be angry about go on and on.” Very Fucking True.

This was one of the more thoughtful responses to criticism I’ve seen from a metal/rock band. He makes some very good points. Dave Draiman should be taking notes.

If they don’t feel the need to defend themselves, As they claim, Then why the fuck did they just write that long drawn out press release basically defending themselves? Irony at it’s finest.

I don’t really listen to either of these bands, but wikipedia classifies them as “metalcore” and “hardcore”…. what’s the big deal? I would consider those genre’s very similar (at least in the type of crowd they would draw)

      • It’s been forever since I’ve heard any of AA’s music, but when I did, it was foremost amongst a handful of recommendations from a cousin-in-law. After listening to them all, my only thought was, “OMG, these are all ear-piercing screamo bands.” STYG definitely ain’t that.

    • Is AA really that big that they get to headline the Wiltern? That’s a venue where I’ve seen the like of Tool, Deftones, and Primus play. Mastodon next week will probably be the least mainstream band I’ll have seen there. So what the fuck is going on here?

Anyhow, STYG are headlining the Glass House next month, so I never would’ve even thought twice about this show.
