“Lou Reed and Metallica….awesome.” Is that supposed to be the response? The last good Metallica album=Master of Puppets. Cliff Burton has rolled in his grave so many times in the last 20 years that he has probably dug his way half way to China by now. RIP Cliff RIP Metallica

Who wants to listen to that album ? I’m a Metallica fan, and I don’t. I guess lou Reed fans don’t either. These washed-up farts have lost if a long time ago, and with this release, it probably means Metallica will delay their forecoming album for at least another year or two…

Love ‘em or hate ‘em they are undeniably one of the greatest of all time, saying they’re overrated is hardly applicable unless you’re going to rip on everything they did from ’94 and on(all still decent albums, just not the same ol’ Metallica) It’ll be worth a listen to say the least and I’m sure it will disapoint most who hear it, probably because so many want Metallica to repeat kill ‘em all and so on.

This is the defining difference between artists and entertainers. Entertainers give the people what they want (a la the exact same album year after year) while artists give themselves what they want and need and just kind of stand by and hope that others like it, too. The difference though is that artist don’t care if you do like it. They like it. They made art for the sake of the creation and the expression. I mean, a band like Rage Against The Machine does what they do, and they do it very well, but it’s also all they do. After 4-5 tracks I’m definitely ready to listen to something else. Metallica, you can blast through their career on your iPod and you’ll get variety, expansion and the willingness (especially in the face of backlash from the elite) to explore and go places they’ve never been before. For that they will always have my respect (no matter how much I cannot fucking stand Enter Sandman) and my fandom.

P.S. I’m not calling RATM entertainers. It was just an example.
