    • Abysmal.

A.) Not having Paul Romano makes it crappier already, though I can look past it.

B.) The Mastodon typeface is a thing of the past.

C.) It just looks fucking stupid and waaaaay too gaudy.

In fact, Jay, you’ll get a laugh out of this thought… I was reminded of the new dredg album when I saw it as both releases have (IMO) incredibly shitty covers. This should hold up a hell of a lot better, aurally than the new dredg though. Unless, of course, Mastodon worked with Dan the Automater too.

    • As much as I dig their “usual” style, the cover art and songtitles have me hopeful for me some stuff more in the vein of “Cut You Up with a Linoleum Knife.”

Trippy progressive Mastodon is awesome, but some more dumb rockin’ Mastodon would be just as welcome.

    • oh Geor! I wouldn’t expect anyone from western Pennsylvania (just an assumption) to understand this kind of artistic brilliance like we Philly people do. I will however listen to your opinion on the steel mills, The Deerhunter, quarterbacks, and the Steelers. (Eagles vs. Steelers in Superbowl this year…if the season happens) My sillyness and wit aside, I like the cover. It’s a pissed off, psychedelic, lego-bull. What’s not to like?

I give the Steelers the nod for employing the services of the great Antonio Brown, a man I got to see up-close and in-person for 2 years in college.

Awesome and unique just like the album is gonna be. You know it’s not going to sound anything like crack the skye or even remission for that matter. These dudes are pros at creating something new and interesting each time around. Not just rehash like so many bands nowadays (cough – Unearth).

    • Love it. The element thing has ran it’s course and it’s time to give Romano a rest for now. I dislike when every god damn band uses the same artist. Although the font could be a bit more clever to compliment the art. I still give it an A.

@noraad – I feel the same way about John Baizley. (singer for Baroness) His art KILLS but I swear half the releases I saw over the last two years had his work on it. Change it up. :)

    • I like Baizley’s work too but I also have a problem with it. It’s not just the fact that it’s been on tons of albums, it’s that combined with the fact that it all looks exactly the same.

    • So, is this going to be more in the vein of Crack the Skye or Leviathan? I would guess a little bit of both but more Crack The Skye. I would think once you find success not having to go hoarse every night you stick to it.
