Sumerian Records Address Signing “Controversy”
Sumerian Records hit their Facebook up early this morning (June 21st) to address the controversy that seems to have emerged recently following some of the bands more left-field signings (Borgore, etc.). Here’s what the label had to say on the matter:
“Dear Everybody,
There’s a difference between Sumerian Records the label and Sumerian Metal the movement. We have never set out to be a one dimensional label. When we sign a progressive metal band, you can count on them being fucking awesome. When we sign something out of your comfort zone, we can count on you to pay attention and you can count on us to keep you talking. From Meshuggah to Led Zeppelin, Tool to The Police, The Faceless to Dr. Dre.. if we like it then we like it. Our passion knows no boundaries. Now go check out ENFOLD DARKNESS and CIRCLE OF CONTEMPT as they deserve Sumerian Nation’s support.
P.S. We just signed The HAARP Machine so we can get away with murder right now. : )

ya know its a dubstep artist, its not like its a boy-band pop act… dubstep can be pretty dark, just look at Big Chocolate and Skrillex… and lets not forget, rapper Bizzy Bone is on Sumerian… Sumerian is one of the best labels out there right now for sure, Born of Osiris and Periphery anyone? not to mention countless others…
shut up
Don’t really understand all the flak Sumerian has been getting, they are signing talented artists left, right, and center. Who cares if you dislike one or two of them?
People should focus on Nuclear Blast, Roadrunner, Metal Blade, Century Media and all the other well-established labels for a second – they all sign bands that the usual metalhead doesn’t like and still get away with it. And they also sign dozens of shit bands that the usual metalhead loves although they suck. Whatever.
Sumerian made it’s early money the smart way – catering to fans of a genre who needed to hear some new blood. Now that they have said money, they can start pushing other genres of music and make more money off fans of those different genres. It’s evolution in the music business, that’s all.
Nice avatar Kent.
Hell, I’m glad kids are calling them out on it. I wish I could go back in time and give Trustkill, Ferret, Victory et. all a piece of my mind when they started signing horseshit bands and letting the legit talent go by the wayside.
Any U.S label willing to give Aussie lads like Dead Letter Circus a go are worth a chance in my books.
