First, Deftones and Dillinger Escape Plan tour with one another, titillating my eighth grade self. Now, Thursday and Taking Back Sunday are getting together for a run, and my freshman in high school self is going wild. Not a bad year.

Conversely, my 11th grade self is irritated that the great Thursday are reduced to touring with a mediocre, over-rated band like Taking Back Sunday.

    • I think this site has become too metal for me, I love Taking Back Sunday and Thursday. Remember when there used to be Incubus news on theprp.com? I still love it here for the conversation, but some of this music scares me v: )
P.S. that v over the smiley face is my emo haircut

Goddamn, I love me some Taking Back Sunday. Probably more than Thursday, in the end. Does it say somewhere who is opening this tour? I figured they would just switch off nights, like Thursday and Thrice used to do when they toured together.

I would imagine/I had assumed TBS were the headliners. They are, afterall, the one band of the two that sells (read: SOLD) records and makes (read: MADE) impressionable 15 year-old girls wet.

Incubus is amazing, old and new. I will search for that once I get home from work. TBS will be the headliners the whole run, no doubt. I love me some Thursday, haven’t seen them live for quite some time (maybe since Warped ’05 or something). TBS were pussy that kept stopping because there was too much movement in the crowd for their liking.

    • Definitely lost my passion for Thursday ten years or so ago. I only ever liked that understanding in a car crash one or whatever (was that the song or the album? eh), and that didn’t hold up over time for me.
On another note, I too miss the days when all the silly nu-metal bands were covered heavily here. Where’s my Hoobastank updates? I had no idea until recently that Hoobastank even still existed. And no, I never fucking liked Hoobastank, it was just a classic example of how things used to be, smartass.

    • My freshman college self thinks that TBS with orginal line-up sounds fucking great. I saw the orginal line-up and that was as good as it gets IMO (I have seen the Fred era line- up, but wrote them off after the 3rd album as lost to the darkside of the force.) Question that puzzles me: What will TBS play now? only the 1st and newest record? if so, color me excited, fuck the rest!
Thursday, color me the same college age, and excited if they keep it lively and high energy. I saw the Thursday/ Thrice/ Coheed tour. it ruled!
Fuck the openers, and the emo hair cuts.
@Jayofthejungle. ^:) or whatever you did, was great!

    • Good grief dudes. TBS? really? A band like Converge would never be too metal for me on any given day…especially if it were between listening to TBS or some awesome metal band that completely pisses all over that lame band. I think some of ya’ll need to check what’s dangling (or not dangling) around downstairs if ya catch my drift. Jesus christmas. Now go into the kitchen and scarf down 3 bowls of Captain Crunch cereal and lay the nastiest shit of the month and be proud of it. Don’t spray your mom’s febreeze that kills your shit stench either. That’s right man.

    • I’m not ashamed to listen to very unmetal music. It can’t just be all doom and gloom all the time. I often will go from Wolves In The Throne Room to Bjork to Death Cab For Cutie to Agoraphobic Nosebleed in a day.

As a Converge fan (check the avatar, duh) and general supporter of hardcore/metal, I will proudly share my fondness of bands such as Taking Back Sunday. This includes personal favorites such as Brand New, Dashboard Confessional, Third Eye Blind, No Doubt and even Taylor Swift. There was a time when I thought “metal or nothing” was my musical preference, but as I matured and my interests in life expanded, so did my musical tastes. There’s no sense in limiting your music collection to one genre or ideology. Different days have different settings, which require different soundtracks.

      @Grantbrochill
However much I agree with your points on the importance of inclusiveness among musical genres, I have to say that my entire public persona and fashion image hinges on the fact that I almost exclusively listen to early nineties Rap-Metal. Therefore, it would not be beneficial for me to let people know that I enjoy a little Country/Western or Balkan Folk from time to time.

    • @kent hahaha brilliant
@grant i hear you, sportin the converge avatar myself. i’ve always loved theprp for its specific diversity. TBS’s “tell your friends” was a decent disc, and thursday has ALWAYS toured with different acts. anyone remember their run with Paulson (another band theprp covered for a brief bit, and coincidentally totally not metal)? so far today i’ve rocked Beecher, early From a Second Story Window, Pantha du Prince, and Why? (off anticon records). i think this site always encouraged different shit and those of us that grew up reading it benefited. if you’re here just to read about metal, head over to lambgoat.

    • @grant im with you brother, love Brand New, TBS, and Thursday, having a 5 year old daughter I know all about Taylor Swift too, decent songs, better rack. My daughter’s going to see her this summer with the wife, financial reasons is the only reason I’m not joining, have to pick and choose shows. My girl gets Taylor Swift, I get Soundgarden and Mars Volta, not a bad trade.

    • ^ True that. The only good Weezer (IMO) is the first two. I am also turning green.
PS. metal/ hardcore is/are awesome, but variety is the spice of life. Mix it up some. Eat a green thing once and awhile too while you’re at it!!!

    • Will, my favorite is Volta. It’s the newest one and in my opinion the best. Homogenic is also amazing. The song Unravel is easily top 5 favorite song ever. Those are 2 good albums to start with to give you a sense of old and new. Medulla is really good and like 99% of it is all done acapella.

@ grantbrochill – totally agree with the switching up the genres.. wayyyy to many death metal kids now a days, its just to overwhelming how many blast beat bands there are now.. back in the day there were only a few, now they come a dime a dozen just like EMO/Screamo bands back in 2000s and Nu-metal Bands in the 90s. its good to switch up styles especially if you are a musician like myself.. singer at that.

@ Kent – ya man im totaly a nu-metal kid as well.. i think everyone who was born in the 80s was once in their life.. man back then was the best.. you either listened to korn, limp, slipknot, ect. or blink 182, rancid, new found glory. MAYBE would find that 1 deathmetal/blackmetal kid in your HS. but that was it man. and even to this day i still carry the deftones swagger/style.. its just stuck with me ever since i was a kid.

    • @will TBS is actually playing songs from all the albums. I think its cool that John and Shaun don’t have big egos and will play Fred and to a lesser extent Matt Fazzi (only 1 New Again song still on setlist). Hearing John sing Fred Masch songs is weird but cool.
