wow, no comments, really? am i the only person who frequents this site that also loves this band? a lot of good bands just end up sounding kind of shitty when playing live on tv… but the Queens sounds good as hell… can’t wait for this reissue, I already have it in my iTunes, including the added tracks, but I want this baby on vinyl…

Strong statement by jayofdajungle. My first instinct was to disagree, but I can’t come up with a solid argument. Current QOTSA sounds tight as fuck.

    • It’s sounding tight because this was a song written when they were ‘tight’. This is champagne QOTSA gentleman, back when they wrote mean, dirty, druggie rock. Last few Queens records haven’t exactly been memorable.

    • I enjoy QOTSA Mr. Blue Balls sir. IMO they are a truely sweet band. However my love for them, like Machine Head came later rather than sooner. It was only with the radio air play off Songs for the Deaf that I took notice. I also noticed that I don’t have this album, I start my collection with R, or is it Rated R? I’ve seen both. Either way, this band is like dating a 10 when your only a 5 on the hotness scale. People look at me like, “he does not deserve her” when I jam this band.

    • I believe Lullabies to Paralyze was growing pains that were gonna have to happen when Nick O. left. But I agree with Afghanistam, Era Vulgaris is awesome. Including sick, sick, sick

@ Surly I’ve got to respectfully disagree. Out of the band’s last three albums, I think that Songs for the Deaf and Era Vulgaris are very memorable. I was more referring to how this particular lineup sounded live, which was damn near flawless even when compared to their earlier years IMO. I felt the same way when I saw them open for Rage in 2007 not long after Era Vulgaris came out, so I think it’s more about the lineup for me and less about the specific material.

@ will I’m confused. Did we disagree at some point? I read your comment twice and I think we’re on the same page, though I don’t feel quite as insecure as you when I jam QOTSA, but we all have our hang-ups :)

    • Songs…for…the…deaf. You can’t even hear it! -I love that line.

Aplogises, I didn’t mean to include Songs for the Deaf. That was triumphant. I guess being into them from their s/t, it was quite the mortal blow when Nick left. He basically provided the gritty, punk vibe. He brought a sense of violence and volatility the group hasn’t really captured in their releases since. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t dislike them. Era Vulgaris was good, but I find the drum sound and the muted tones used on the guitars a little….filtered, over-produced. It’s just a matter of taste really. Josh has a killer vocal on every release. As much as I hate to be ‘that kinda guy’, I feel they just haven’t been the same since Josh left…and I didn’t even like the guy that much. Major loose cannon. But I guess that’s what was part of their charm.

    • @ Blue Balls. no we did not. I left the page up when it had two comments, walked away for hours, came back later and commented. after submission I realized that my comment seemed rather odd because there were more than 2 remarks by that time. but I was “sttee” away so fuck it.

    • ps. ps. ps. (last one I swear) I was watching this again and the drummer reminded me, does anyone else think that the Eagles of Death Metal blow major dick?

    • I love Lullabies to Paralyze, Medication, Everybody Knows That You’re Insane, Tangled Up In Plaid, Someones In The Wolf, up there with my favorite Queens songs. Era Vulgaris is awesome as well. Don’t get me wrong I love Nick-era Queens albums more. I was talking strictly live. I’ve seen them with Nick and w/out. Nick was kind of a side-show, which was entertaining, but as far as sound (which I know includes more instrumentation), Queens sounds way better now.
