Zao’s “The 2nd Era” Reportedly Due Next Month

Solid State are reportedly readying a new Zao effort by the name of “The 2nd Era” for a tentative May 17th release date. Further details on the release, which will likely see some of the bands earlier releases repackaged, are expected in the coming weeks.

Kinda fallen off the Zao train after they released “the fear is what keeps us here”. I’ll still check this out, though. After all, it is Zao.

      More like 3rd Era…

      1) SolidState releases their first 7 thousand records
      2) Ferret releases their second 2 or 3
      3) Again with the SolidState

I’ve way lost interest since Funeral of God, the Fear is What Keeps Us Here was decent. Awake? was boring.

Personally, “Funeral Of God” is my favorite Zao album. The last two albums have been disappointing. I’m interested to see what they do with Russ back in the fold.

Fear Is What Keeps Us Here suffered from bad production under the guise of being “raw”, and Awake suffered from bad (lazy?) arrangement. There were some great riffs and great parts on Awake, but they placed them horribly. Human Cattle Masses Marching Forward had a great opening and verse, but the chorus turned into a simple, two chord pop song.

As far as Solid State goes, they’ve screwed over a lot of great bands. Most secular labels treat their bands better.

    • Wait wait wait…So is this going to be a Solid State money grab along the lines of the Norma Jean/The Chariot album bundles or is this an actual new album from Zao? I am thinking the former because after watching The Lesser Lights of Heaven DVD I really couldn’t see Zao working with Solid State again.

Yeah, this is pretty much the same as the Norma Jean situation, Solid State is a joke nowadays. On the other hand, Zao does have a new LP in the works, they’re self-releasing it though.

Also, according to Zao’s facebook the Solidstate release is:

“just a straight re-issue of Blood and Fire, Liberate, and Self-Titled in a new package with new artwork tying them all together [...] you’re not really getting anything new. it’s essentially a way to keep the music available as retailers are more likely to stock this one item as opposed to 3 different items (as in the original releases)”.

    • check out Advent on Solid State. they rule! and I went to high school with the bass player. but he does not factor in the ruling on their “kick-ass-ity.” they just do.
