I really hate to say this, but I’m kind of underwhelmed from what I’ve heard. Tongue-Splitter and Tandem are the only songs that instantly got my wet. But I’m not worried…I’m sure it will all grow on me and I’ll love the album in no time.

I agree with anti-dentite on the premise that it takes a while to grow on you. With all the complex instrumentation in their music, it took me several spins through Fortress to start grooving with it.

That’s the thing, though. Calculated blew my mind. Kezia blew my load. Fortress blew my mind and load. Scurrilous will just take a little time. Only complaint so far…not many songs using that thrash metal tempo like on almost every song from Kezia. Oh well. Still pretty awesome.

I’ll be streaming this all day at work tomorrow. I’ve been a fan of Protest the Hero, but homeboy is sounding more like Halford every day.

I’ve been listening to this non-stop for over a week now, and it’s just not as good as Fortress. The songs don’t differentiate much, bass playing is slightly bland, and the vocal variety and lyrics are lacking. This hurts me so much to admit it, they’ve been my favorite band for the last few years (ever since I had to face the fact that NF is never coming back). Of course I still love the album and the band, but I was expecting a 10 and got a 6 or 7. Just an honest opinion after week 1. Hopefully before Wook reviews it I’ll be able to up my score.

    • I’ve never really listened to this band until now; having just finished listening to their new record. Impressions – pretty good! The singer looks like Brandon Flowers, especially with that little dirty sanchez mustache.
