The Haunted have made the title track from their new album “Unseen” available for streaming over at their Facebook. The album itself is scheduled for a March 22nd release date through Century Media.
some bands try new stuff and head in new directions as they get older and get more mature. if you had to play the exact same songs every single night for years and years… might you get tired of that “type of sound”. sometimes bands do fresh stuff because they get tired of playing the same repetative shit tour after tour after tour. sometimes the change works out, and sometimes it doesn’t. but it’s stupid to hate on them or any band for heading in a different direction. if you don’t like it, don’t listen to it. listen to your other bands that you like. i’m pretty sure expressing themselves artistically and musically and feeling good about what they’ve put together at the end of the day is more important to them than if you think they’re cool or not anymore.
I agree with Chinch, and “heavier than they actually are” makes no sense whatsoever. I love how Chimaira’s managed to make no 2 records sound quite alike while keeping their basic sound. For me, they’re the opposite of boring.
Heavier than they actually are in the sense that they try too hard to be “extreme” anymore. I cringed hearing Mark throw in those death growls. They outright did not fit. They ended up sacrificing songwriting to be more metal…the hooks disappeared from their music, as did the memorable riffs. They just turned into a wall of metal that to me is outright bland. Save Ourselves was the last great riff I’ve heard from the band and that was 6 years ago.
I’ve loved everything the Haunted have put out with the exception of “the dead eye” only having a couple good tracks. This new song does sound like their biggest attempt at radio airplay by a long shot, but I’m still holding out hope the rest of the album is pretty strong.
And as for the Chimaira discussion going on…cma dude….check out the songs “Six”, “Needle”, and “Empire” off of Resurrection….that album is full of their awesome riffs and hooks. IMO the Infection is their only album that has fallen a little flat. Only two or three memorable tracks. But like viking dude said, they do a great job of maintaining their sound while giving each album a different flavor. Looking forward to their next album especially if they finally land a talented bass player.

Chimaira is a good example of how not to became craptastic
Chimaira actually became craptastic after their self-titled. Just got absolutely boring trying to be heavier than they actually are.
