Megadeth Frontman Teases “Huge Tour Announcement”
Megadeth mastermind Dave Mustaine recently took to his Twitter to tease an upcoming tour announcement with the following:
“Droogies, a huge announcement is coming for next summer in the States and in Europe and the U.K.”
Rumors have once again begun circulating in recent weeks that the ‘big four’ (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax) have all signed on for a more extensive run this coming summer, though it remains to be seen if these rumors turn out to be true.

Stop calling me a droogie. My mom says I’m worth more than that. I give 10:1 odds that this is the Big Four tour, and 2:1 odds say it’s “An Evening with Megadeth”, just the kind of huge news Mustaine loves to dish out.
I can’t help it, I’ll always think of Anthrax being considered among “The Big Four” as hilarious.
Or as my friends would say – “Who the fuck is Anthrax?”.
Yeah, they do seem to be the “ugly ducklings” of the Big Four. Oh well, I’m still a fan – though I wouldn’t complain if Testament took their place.
I find it hard to believe that “the big four” is touring right after “the big three” just got done doing all those Jagermeister gigs. I could be wrong, it just seems improbable.
If you don’t think that Anthrax is part of the Big Four, you’re not old enough to know why. And tell your friends that they are fucking retarded.
I’d actually be more stoked to see Sepultura on the big four, then Anthrax. Never was a fan, and never will be.
While I’m a fan of Madhouse and Bring the Noise, I think I’d rather see The Damned Things open this one up. This could also be the reformation of Gigantour.
@butt – Great advice, I’ll do that. Not old enough to know why? Okay, sure, fine. I can live with that. Oh wise elder.
But you can’t deny there’s a massive fuckin’ drop-off after you say “Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer………………………….. and Anthrax.”
More like “The Big Three” and a special guest.
(Note that I’m not bashing Anthrax here, just pointing out that, notoriety-wise, Anthrax doesn’t fit here. Sepultura (good call Relentless), or hell, Pantera, would make more sense here. But one’s half of what it used to be, and one’s done, so… Anthrax? Sure, why not.)
Yeah, if possible, I would definitely prefer Pantera over Anthrax. It’s not the big four of thrash anymore if you do that, but the big four of metal suits me fine. Anthrax is indeed just too far of a drop, and I’ve always said this as well. There’s at least two or three other bands that would fit the bill better, IN MY OPINION (before buttcrackguy starts telling me how young and stupid I must be).
Also, Scott Ian’s made a complete mockery of Anthrax showing up on all those “Wildest Rock Moments” and “VH1′s Sexiest Hollywood Flings”. You can’t do that shit and then expect to be taken seriously in a thrash metal band.
Watch the documentary “Get Thrashed” It’s a great watch into the history of Thrash.
Anvil > Anthrax
I don’t know where Sepultura is coming into this, because they were never part of the real thrash movement. I’m not saying they weren’t thrash, but they are not part of that club. Neither was Pantera. Before Sepultura or Pantera you had better be thinking Testament, Exodus, Overkill, Death Angel, Nuclear Assault or Dark Angel just to name a few.
At the height of the 80′s thrash scene was Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax. Period. Everyone else was just following along.
I fully put Sepultura in with these bands, and just cause I’m doing so doesn’t mean I don’t understand thrash. Sepultura had been a major building block in the thrash movement. Sorry to burst your bubble. They also started the exact same year as Megadeth, Dark angel, Nuclear assault (all 84, like Sepultura), and released albums before Death angel (87), Testament (87). Maybe you should learn your thrash better. Just cause you know some names, doesn’t mean you know the bands placement. Sepultura is a serious thrash band and always has been, while Anthrax was always like the Steel Panther of the scene. Plus their revolving door of band members has made them less and less a serious dealer in the thrash scene. This is a case of “who you know”. Sepultura over Anthrax anyday.
@Relentless – I agree. Just because Sepultura was a foreign import doesn’t lessen their influence. While I’m at it, I’ll throw in the ’80s krautgrinders: Destruction, Kreator, Sodom etc. Can’t forget those guys.
You need to find your info somewhere other than wikipedia. Testament and Death Angel were playing since the early 80′s. I have never in my life heard Sepultura mentioned among those other bands until reading these posts, and they didn’t even form until a few years after all the other bands I named, and they never released an album that anybody gave a shit about until 91. I don’t just know the names, I lived it growing up in the Bay. And how is Sepultura any different from a “revolving door” band like Anthrax? They’ve lost more members than Anthrax has.
Dude, I respect your experience and you’re mostly correct, but take a step outside the little Bay Area box and see how the WORLDWIDE ’80s/’90s thrash coalition is perceived today by bands they influenced. That’s what this is about. That’s why I’ve frequently heard Sepultura mentioned alongside the Bay Area bands, because lots of people – not just from Northern Cali – love them all. What I said about Teutonic thrash also applies. Globalization, people!
@buttcrackguy, again you prove your ignorance. Its cool that you like thrash, but you obviously are one of these thrash purest’s that don’t have any understanding of foreign bands importance. Anyways, your little wikipedia comment might work, if you were talking with a 14 year old, who doesn’t own a single Sepultura album or any understanding of thrash, PERIOD, but since Sepultura has been my second favorite band since I was a little kid, its simply called owning their first CD, and READING the liner notes. Try it, you might learn something. Also, you’re going to say Anthrax 8 SINGERS alone, will compare to Sepultura’s 4 former members? That’s already double the amount of members that Sepultura has lost, and that’s not even mentioning the other numerous members that Anthrax has lost. Follow the bands you praise a little better. Oh and yeah, Wikipedia does have Sepultura posted as starting in 84, but they actually started in 83. Still ahead of some of the bands you mentioned.
