Slipknot Writing And Demoing Material For New Album

Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison recently revealed to Billboard.com that members of Slipknot have already begun writing and demoing new material for the groups next album which they expect to begin recording during the first half of 2011.

Speaking on the matter, he offered the following:

“It’s already in motion, It’s definitely exciting. It’s a little emotional, of course, but I think it’s going to be really, really cool and I think it’s gonna be a really, really great record because everyone’s really involved in the process.”

Jordison also confirmed that while a replacement will be found for late bass player Paul Gray, they will not be performing onstage with the band. To that end Jordison said:

“We’ll have a bass player that’s right next to me, to the right behind the stage, to lock in with me. But there’s no one right now who will go on stage.”

More on the bands plans and Murderdolls can be found at the above-mentioned interview.

I can’t imagine how hard it would be to replace a member who died, But it wouldn’t be fair for the new Bassist. Hopefully in time, he can join the crew on stage and rock out. Looking forward to hearing the new album. Rest in Peace Paul Gray.

@dehumanizer: I agree whole-heartedly. It’s got to be tough to replace a long term original member like Paul who passed…but it’s completely unfair for the band to say “Hey, we need you in order to play. But sorry, you don’t get to be onstage with us, you just get to sit in the back plugged in and play.”

Thats completely unfair to anyone they ask. I’m sure there are bassists that will help them, and if they’re OK with that than fine…but I just think this seems band on Slipknots part.

    • Eh… I see it from their point of view too. I mean, they all have a certain stage presence and close connection between each other. They’ve grown into brothers in many ways. Their masks, their numbers, etc. You can’t get a guy to fill in and throw on a suit and mask and start rocking out on stage with them, it’d be weird… However, they could number their new bass player -2 since he’ll be off stage, opposite of Paul.. ha. Maybe with time they’ll let him in as a bro and he’ll play on stage and wear masks, etc. Now, KoRn on the other hand, they have a less complex band.. I see their point slightly… but hey… if you pay me good enough, I’ll play for your band in the dark. Money talks.

    • I wonder what the new material will sound like. Musically, I loved the last 2 records, but I’m missing their old aggression. I wonder what direction they’ll opt for, especially in light of the emotions surrounding Paul’s death. It’d be nice if they pulled a Machine Head and came back swingin’ dick HEAVY.

    • Fuck yeah. This is very unexpected and awesome news. I guess the whole Stone Sour thing isn’t holding their attention this time around. And anything to get the clown away from that horrible ICP imitation.

    • Wait a minute – didn’t they say there would “be no Slipknot” if all the members weren’t part of it? What the dill?
At least change the name. Lipsnot, or something.

    • i’m thinking he means there won’t be a bassist on stage until they find a permanent replacement.

even though i’ve kind of grown out of their music, i’ll probably always follow this band. and any time they come to town, i’ll go to their show. like them or not, they slay live.

This is good news, BUT: This is just Joey and a couple others demo-ing right now. This still may not happen. SlipKnot members have always had that problem, for example: In 2009 Chris said there would be a new album out in mid-2010….not even close. Nobody else in the band seemed to know what he was talking about. No offense to any members, but I’m pretty sure Corey is the only person to listen to on these matters: He’s still not sure if he’s even on board for a new album. He hasn’t even really thought about it. I’m not saying he’s egotistical, but ultimately, Corey or Clown are the only two members who really have a dominant day in the media. Any real news has come from one of them, and nobody else. Nothing anyone else has said about albums has really come to fruition, honestly. (There are some exceptions, but very few.) I’m happy right now about this, but I’m not going to jump for joy until Corey says for sure, “It’s happening.” As for the bass player thing, the idea seems right. It’s only unfair to the new bassist if he is forced to be behind the stage – not if he’s okay with doing it. I’d be all for playing with Slipknot, even if I was still out in the bus or something. This far down the road, a stage replacement doesn’t seem like a good idea. KoRn did the same thing when Head left, and it’s working fine. That’s my 2 cents. RIP Paul. SlipKnot rules!

It’s an easy decision. With one less member, now the money only has to be split like 31 different ways. If they didn’t have so many drummers, they would only have to split the dough 5 ways. You gotta pinch pennies everywhere you can, they all add up in the end.

    • That’s a great idea daddycsection! haha. These guys haven’t put out a good record since Iowa or however they want to spell it. And if you knew these guys locally from around the midwest scene, you would know that putting a bass player offstage away from everyone is right up their alley. They are the most egotistical assholes you will ever meet, since day one before they were even popular. Paul and Sid were the only cool ones in the band that would even talk to anyone else around the scene. I agree, live they are decent. But, to say that last album was good? C’mon. A lot of you bitch about syncronized head banging and gimmicky clothes and whatnot…..holy shit, here are your gods.

Cory has denied any involvement of making a new Slipknot album on his twitter. “Before anyone gets the wrong idea, let me be clear. I have NO PLANS to make a new Slipknot album any time soon. Shows? Maybe. Album? No.”

“As for Joey’s comments, he took that on himself to say that in print. I can think of 5 people in this band who haven’t written/heard a thing.”

@daddycsection “Slipknot should just get the bassist from Mushroomhead, he comes already pre-douche, mask/uniform and all.” Why not?, his mask is a also a pig, and his name…Pig Benis!!! should fit right in.
