Unearth Part Ways With Drummer
Unearth have parted ways with drummer Derek Kerswill as a result of creative differences. The following statement was issued on the matter:
“After three plus years of touring the world together and playing on our latest album “The March“, we have parted ways with drummer Derek Kerswill. The most notable reason for the split are the creative differences. The time has come for Unearth to write a new album and creating music with a tight unit is the only way we can assure the best collection of songs possible. The differences between Kerswill and the band started off as subtle, but became increasingly obvious over the past few months and it was time for both parties to go their separate ways.
We have shared a ton of great experiences and achieved many of the goals we set for ourselves in the time he was in the band. There is no ill will from either side of this decision and we wish him only the best moving forward.
“Creative differences are real and unfortunately have gotten the best of me. I wish the guys luck in the future and thank you to everyone who ever loved + supported “The March“,” Kerswill said.
Unearth won’t skip a beat, though, as we will be announcing a replacement drummer for our upcoming European stint on the Persistence Tour shortly. Lastly some exciting plans are coming together for the recording to the follow up to “The March” sometime early in 2011.”

COMMENTS
as per the usual, they’ll hired someone elses drummer, and keep on going.
he is a great drummer.
as far as kerswill goes he is a very solid drummer….. seemed weird to me when they announced he be playing with unearth…. but nonetheless he def. is clean….
as far as unearth goes they are no longer interesting to me….. seems like they are releasing the same music the past 2 releases … they defiantly don’t have the same impact on me as they used to have… The Oncoming Storm was the last release i really dug …… id rather hear an unearth record then the majority of whats out now, but just wish they’d try something a lil different and fresh here.
oh and id like to hear some new SEEMLESS, ha maybe now that will happen.
“The March” was utterly disappointing. Everything else from this band has been solid though. Hopefully they pick up a drummer that will bring the brutality back.
Damn. This is a shame and a half. I love Derek’s work, no matter what he’s doing, and I’m sorry to see him go.
I really liked The March. They certainly haven’t brought anything unique to the table across their last 3 releases, but they are definitely my favorite metalcore band…a genre in which I don’t like many bands. It’s a shame Derek has left, but they’ll probably fill his void with another solid drummer.

@smshn.com That won’t happen. Seemless disbanded awhile ago, last year I think. Jesse is busy with Times of Grace and The Empire Shall Fall, Derek has Tangents, and Pete and Jeff have their own projects. I’d love to see it too, but I highly doubt anything beyond maybe a one-off reunion show in a few years.
….keep hope alive! ha!
