He Is Legend Frontman Lashes Out At Former Label

There appears to be no love lost between He Is Legend frontman Schuylar Croom and his bands former label home, Solid State/Tooth & Nail. Croom recently launched the following missive towards the label through his Twitter account:

“Here’s a trivia question for ya @toothandnail… How do you sleep at night? If God were real He’ be flipping over your money tables.”

yea from what I hear that label is pretty ass.
He Is Legend is one of the most overlooked and underrated bands ever…they deserve so much more than the shit cards that were dealt to them by solid state.
Then again there are two sides to every story of which I know zero details about, but whatever.
HIL are cool fucking dudes that make some of the best and original music ever.
I really hope they can do more stuff in the future and not have doodoo labels pull them down.

Good luck to you guys and good ridden to SS
Come to think of it…wasn’t dude from Norma Jean just speaking out against that label too? hmmmm

    • Oh don’t get me wrong…big fan of HIL. I am Hollywood is still a favourite record orf mine. Despite the circumstances and whether or no a band is getting the proverbial ‘screw’ by a label, it’s lame when these guys get on social networking tools lashing out with broad sweeping statements like that. Technology has just made it easier for people to get on their soapboxes and have a cry. Suck it up and stop preaching to the uniformed masses. Go and picket the label offices with a protest march or something with a little more effort than Twitter.

That last sentence is epic, I love it. I’m a pretty big HIL fan, wasn’t too fond of the last album though. I saw Mr. Croom fill-in for vocal duties with Maylene & The Sons of Disaster, it was pretty sweet. Also saw HIL open-up for Killswitch and Dragonforce, very solid.

They’re a great band and all, but it’s not music that is going to appeal to the masses, so the lesson is that if you want to make money playing music, you better play mainstream. Sell your soul, who cares. Money will make you forget you did it.

    • It Hates You is one of my favourite albums released last year. I’m was surprised why they didn’t promote it more. In my case when the CD arrived, the master recording was one or two steps too low. I sent a mail to their uk label but didn’t get an answer. So I did some digilante justice and got the proper version through illegal means.

    • I’ve know people in bands tha Tooth and Nail have courted that have basically been told that if they wanted a record deal, they would have to pretend to be christian and that the basic T&N record deal is 6 albums and they pretty much own everything you record under them.

    • Amazing band, but yeah anyone with a brain can tell that half these “christian” bands aren’t even christian at all, and just use the label to try and sell more records. It Hates You was released on Tragic Hero Records, not Solid State / T&N btw, also an amazing album everyone needs to check out!

    • I’m sure he’s been wanting to say a bunch of things and more ever since they left Solid State. He Is Legend is def an underrated and overlooked band…all of their albums have been solid. Just like most bands, they each have a little something different to offer…which is a good thing. Slayer’s one of the few bands that can get away with sounding the same on every goddamn record and still rule. Other bands can’t do that and they end up sounding stale and uninspired to create something worth listening to.

    • Love the band but last I checked there has to be two sides sign a contract. I’ve heard for years and years that label rips their bands new assholes. They should have done their homework, then signed or walked away.

Every band/artist knows what they sign…and any that say different are either lying or ignorant, and if it’s the latter, that’s their own fault. Don’t blame the label for not pushing music that won’t pay their bills. I love HIL but I feel sorry for them if they signed a record deal and honestly thought that the laws of the music business that have applied to everyone else for decades wasn’t going to apply to them.
