I think it’s safe to say Glassjaw isn’t “some band”. They could take 10 years, if it’s any where near Worship and Tribute, it’ll be worth it.

    • This song is exceptionally terrible, even for Glassjaw. Cant we all just collectively admit that this band had one good album, and it was really only “good” for its time? Go listen to it now, its embarrassingly dated at this point.

    • worship & tribute is hardly an album that was only “good” for its time.. it’s one of the few albums that i listened to for years in a row, and it never got old — and let’s not forget convectuoso, the real album closer and a fucking amazing song. out of the new tracks i’m really enjoying “you think you’re john fucking lennon” and “all good junkies go to heaven”, so yeah, the 8+ year wait might be worth it to me.

I am sorry Element, but not everyone here is as collectively stupid as you are. This band has had more than one good album in fact…including their Kiss Kiss Bang Bang EP as well. So, you know…nothing they have done is dated, nothing is irrelevant from Glassjaw…people are still hardcore fans of them and are desperately waiting for their new album, and why? Because they are talented and if these god-awful emo bands were to gleam anything from this band is that it should be this: You can still be fucking emotional without sounding completely trite. Glassjaw has achieved this.

    • Agree to disagree. I have always hated this band, and I would say 99% of the reason is the singers “over the top in a bad way” thing that he does. (Not to mention he can barely sing in key.) I don’t know- they just do nothing for me, except make me want to listen to Deftones lol

    • it’s not that chino’s famous for singing in key either.. :) don’t get me wrong, i’d rather listen to chino’s singing rather than a pitch-perfect-but-shallow singer any day, but i also love daryl palumbo’s voice: it’s “over the top in a good way” to me (cue “pink roses”). no, make that “over the top in a fucking amazing way”.

I’ve always been a Fan of Daryl’s Vocals, case in point, the song “Number No Good things could come of” Is one of my favorite Songs of theirs for the Style of singing he uses in it, and to say Glassjaw is “dated” is just ignorant and couldn’t be further from the Truth. That being said, I cannot wait for the new album, “Jesus Glue” is a great song, and I can’t wait to hear the rest. Bring it Glassjaw.

    • Glassjaw should write a song, from the perspective of one of their fans, about how fucking long it’s taking this album to come out. It would be the most frustrated song they’ve ever written.

Fuck! Just roll with it! Shit comes out when shit comes out! And at the moment gj is like constipation, hard to deal with, but when that fucker lands in the bowl, you’re gonna be grinning from ear to ear……..

GJ just needs to put out an album, and if they don’t have enough material, record a studio version of “Harlem” or put out a rare/bsides/demo compilation officially… Or maybe tour – yaaa that’d be fine! Too much inactivity for that group…

@element, you bash Daryl for not singing in key and then mention Deftones? I love Chino but Diamond Eyes is the first album I’ve ever heard him stay in key throughout.

    • Fo reelz. I mean if you’re a fan of the Deftones I don’t know how you can’t be a fan of Glassjaw…makes no sense. It’s pretty much the same deal as Pantera and Slayer fans…I’d say at least 90 percent like both bands. I don’t know anybody who likes Megadeth but dislikes Metallica…unless you’re corny and went along with Dave Mustaine just because he had personal issues with Metallica…ya know what I mean?

@Element Half of the criticism you gave makes me wonder if you’ve even heard glassjaw and not just thinking of another band. I admire Daryl’s vocals and his presence with it. EYEWTKAS is a damn classic in my book. I mean the first album I can literally call a classic of my time. The other half of your criticism is warranted because of personal taste in music.

Wow….love the Deftones, never been into Glassjaw….based on this post alone though I feel I should give them another shot. I mean, 25 posts in one day, this band has got to have done something right, right? Wish me luck, I’m going in…..

One very important lesson that I’ve learned in life is this: When somebody says “if you like “X”, then you’ll love “Y”. It just never works out. If I never had heard of Glassjaw, then after reading the posts here, I would assume that Glassjaw is a Deftones knock off. They are far from it. And not in a good way. It’s not even the same genre. It’s like saying “If you like NIN, then you’ll love Toby Keith.”

    • So this is the right post to “spam” on…. my band, 10 songs, 5 years in the making, 2 1/2 years in the studio… Mars Volta meets Deep Purple is what I tell people, with Danzig meets Jim Morrison on the mic. Some people say it reminds them of the 80s. Listen to a 5 song sampler (3 minutes) and tell me how much my band stinks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjlr87lj09A

Glassjaw is still cool and top notch shit. I think my bands shit is pretty fly too….

    • Just wanted to say to the dude glassjaw is dated. really? i can still listen to W&T and, ETYEWTKAS to this day. Glassjaw only help me get into other artist as well like the Squeeze, Elvis Costello and, Tori Amos. what i love about them is that they draw influences from a lot influences differant styles of music and, make it their own.

    • More on glassjaw. Daryl signs in key, just not all the time. Worship and Tribute has held up like the titan of the album it is. Two weak trracks….. New shit sounds awsome. Bu i think I like the pairing of glassjaw ans ross robinson the best. Its a shame we only got one song out of the Snot/robinson sessions.

I got into Glassjaw through seeing them open for the Deftones so they are kind of forever linked to me. Daryl Palumbo doesn’t always sing in key, and it’s not that he can’t, it’s just part of his style. I love the new stuff, I think it’s a huge step forward for them artistically, every member of the band is at the top of their game. Bringing Manny and Durijah back have done wonders for their sound, and I’m coming around to the thought of them as a four-piece. I wasn’t sure they could pull off some of the shit they do without a 2nd guitar, but Beck’s pretty sick. Even though the way they are releasing the new music is kind of pissing me off, I still fucking bite and snatch it up, that’s how much I love this band. It’s just nice to hear newer music and by newer I mean they’ve been playing “Natural Born Farmer” since like 2003, and “Jesus Glue” and “John Lennon” since 2006, “Junkies” and “Wolfegg” being the only real new songs that have surfaced. I’m just hoping they have more songs than that.

I think it’s funny that the first things attacked when talking about bands like Glassjaw, Thursday or Deftones is the vocals. Much like Deftones, Glassjaw is a SONIC band. Only someone who listens to songs over and over can hear the depth of the music, especially in Worship and Tribute. Glassjaw is a band about the mixture of sounds, not completely relying on vocal prowess to push them through. I’ve read multiple interviews from Beck and Weinstock where they talk about the rythm and bass being the driving force behind the music, and that’s where I really think Glassjaw is set apart. Whether Daryll is in key or not (and like it was said before, sometimes he doesn’t WANT to be), that’s part of the Glassjaw experience. They combine sounds and tones in a way unparalleled. I can understand your criticism Element, because you’re a vocalist so that’s the area you know most about and in turn will be most critical of, but the sound of Glassjaw as a whole is what is truly meant to be enjoyed.

And I don’t think Worship and Tribute is dated at all, it’s up there with “Shape of Punk to Come” and “Relationship of Command” as an album I can put in, and fucking GO there from start to finish, like a sonic journey. And haven’t heard an album like it, it’s completely set apart in mood, tone and overall experience. It’s all over the fucking place, in an amazing way. Glassjaw started out as a very loud, very emotional hardcore band, but with Worship and Tribute and beyond it’s so much more, and should be judged accordingly.

    • I’ve always felt that Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Silence was a stronger album, but after this epic discussion I’m compelled to pop on Worship and Tribute to see what the deal is. To tell the truth I haven’t tried to listen to it in at least five years. And I would agree in SOME respects that this band does sound a bit dated, only due to the thousands of bands that have come and gone who borrowed from their sound. It would happen to anyone who got a semi-big following and then disappeared for ten years. Still a fucking righteous band though.

    • How can anyone say this band is dated?? Makes no sense. Too old when worship and tribute came out?? What the fuck does that mean.

Great bands never become “dated” and Glassjaw is no different. If you are butthurt because they have not released a new album yet then fuck off. Go get a girlfriend and kill some time. Cause you know when it comes out you are gona be happier than a stuck pig ;)

Release EYEWTKAS now, as a brand new album, and it will own anything that’s out right now that is along the same line. Same goes for W&T. You cannot just put either of these albums in, listen to them one time and make a judgement call. Their music is so much deeper than a lot of people fail to notice.

Deftones are my favorite band of all time and yes, I love GJ as well. But their ideas and song physics are on two…..totallly…..different….levels. I don’t think that if you like one you’ll like the other. That statement is bullshit. Period. Glassjaw is simply put, smart screamo. I don’t think Deftones fit that medium in the least.

@jayofdajungle: element, you bash Daryl for not singing in key and then mention Deftones? I love Chino but Diamond Eyes is the first album I’ve ever heard him stay in key throughout.

……….What? Where were you for Around the Fur or White Pony? Seriously.

…and you can bet she’ll drink and follow orders. Worship & Tribute didn’t have much in the way of the sadistic women hating stuff. @im on a horse, just because Chino sings out of key on most Deftones albums doesn’t mean it doesn’t sound good, I was just pointing out to my friend element that if he’s going to comment about Daryl singing out of key and then mention the Deftones, he’s got to realize Chino is guilty of the same thing. I’ve been listening to the Deftones since ’95, so yeah I’ve heard Around The Fur and White Pony, it only takes a pair of ears and minimal knowledge to know what’s in key and not, Around The Fur has a lot of instances, White Pony, not so much. Adrenaline, Self-titled, and SNW, oh hell yeah.

    • Saying that Glassjaw’s music is “so much deeper than a lot of people fail to notice” is not only grammatically ass-backwards but a total cop-out. There’s two guitars, a bass, a drum set and a fucking singer. How goddamn deep can that truly get? Go listen to that Fucked Up record that claims to have like 98 different tracks on each song if you wanna know what deep sounds like.

    • im on a horse     October 14, 2010 at 2:58 pm

Ok lol….98 different tracks on a song? That, to me, equals total nonsense. Anyone can make a song with a shit ton of tracks you simple minded fuck. The way i see it is, do more with what you have. I.E. two guitars, a bass, a drum set and a fucking singer. If you need 98 seperate tracks to claim your band is, “deep”, in reality your band is a fucking joke. It’s how you put the guitars, bass, drums and vocals together in one unified sound that counts. Not the number of tracks

@jayofdajungle : as far as out of key, are you refering to spoken word instances like in dai the flu? Because that would make sense.

In closing, you dont have to like deftones to like GJ and vice versa. Deep music is way more than numerous tracks…..

Hi all, just joined the PRP finally, mainly to find out when Glassjaw will have a new CD in the stores. I dont download or buy records, so it gets pretty frustrating hearing new GJ tunes. Also, to hear if Finch, my other favourite from this genre, are around still or recording a new CD.
