Pantera Elaborate On “The Will To Survive”
The Pantera camp have cleared up the confusion surrounding their newly released track “The Will To Survive“. Speaking via the bands Facebook page, the following insight was offered:
“Lots of you seem to be confused about “The Will to Survive“. Just to clarify, this is a demo track from the Cowboys From Hell Demos. It was recorded in 1989 & was not included on the original release of Cowboys From Hell. It is going to be included on the 20th Anniversary 3cd deluxe set (instore 9/14) as well as the Ultimate box set (Instores 11/22). And yes, that is Philip singing.”

“Lots of you seem to be confused about “The Will to Survive“. Just to clarify, yes, it does suck rancid moose cock. It is a demo track from our worst album, and we figured we can sell a bunch of new copies of a CD you have already owned for decades; simply by adding a song that contains the riff you hear in “This Love”. (Off of Vulgar Display Of Power, another Pantera album you have owned for decades.) It was recorded in 1989 when shrieking like a neutered banshee was cool, & was not included on the original release of Cowboys From Hell, because Phil couldn’t remove his lips from Rob Halford’s dick long enough to finish the vocals. GETCHA PULL!”
Well, I’m sure glad they clarified that….
Element’s comments are funny however, I feel the need to defend Cowboys from Hell. I love that album, but I have not listened to the “new” song yet.
My work computer sucks.
element-since when was cowboys from hell their worst album? if i am not confused this was the album that got them their crowd and attention that has since followed, obviously you never heard their previous 4 albums released before Cowboys from hell, which your description of ‘shrieking like a neutered banshee’ would catagorize them perfectly. But the purpose of the boxset is not so the fans can have the same album plus one song that may suck on it, its so they have a collectors item from one of the best metal bands of the times. Plus that album is 20 years old now!! im sure everyone who owns any of those are either scratched to shit or just warped from repeated use. It would be nice to have a sweet brand new one with extra goodies inside. Downloaders are killing the music industry and for the ppl that actually buy things anymore this is an excellent chance to get your hands on some new (old) shit rather then the same crap thats been sittin in your cd case for however many years.

I think the main reason for re-releasing this album other than it turning 20 years old is the fact that the audio on the old Cd’s aren’t as loud and since it’s getting remastered now it’s gonna sound even better than it did 20 years ago. Same goes for Vulgar Display of Power and Far Beyond Driven when those get reissues. And Cowboys From Hell by far isn’t their shittiest album. I think if they have a shitty album it’s the ones before Phil came into the band. After Phil joined they never had a bad album. The reissue is definitely for hardcore fans and aside from the unreleased song people are going to be buying it for other reasons.
I dunno someone leaving a negative comment about Pantera is just beyond me.
That’s like finding a Slayer Cd in the used bin
Since we’re in the mood to counter other posters opinions… “Downloaders are killing the music industry.” I disagree. The music industry’s reluctance to adapt to a changing medium is killing the music industry.
1. As a downloader of music, if i truly enjoy a album and will have a repeat listen, i will go out and buy the album. Downloading is just like previewing it in the store or using aol listening party crap to hear a whole album before its released.
2. i am in no way a fan of 80′s hair metal, nor the very early pantera albums from what i have herd. I do have to say that the song is different and shows the early side of a great band. Being how i do not own a copy of cowboys from hell and have downloaded it several times, this is a disc i will pick up just for the bonus material.
3. is element a down fan? or does he just hate Judas priest? or did he just mad cause this post wasn’t about iron maiden or megadeath???
“inserts grammer joke before element does” (or was he just*)
I actually love Pantera, but this is a pretty lame cash grab for an album that doesn’t hold a candle to their later work. Sure, there are a few great songs off it (Primal Concrete Sledge, Domination) but the album really has aged about as well as mayonnaise in the sun. (Songs like Shattered and Medicine Man are cringe worthy at best.) This “new” demo song is just that, a demo for a song deemed not good enough to make the final album. Also, I don’t understand the point of going all George Lucas on the disc and remastering it, making it louder etc. It kills the nostalgia factor of it for me. You listen to a 20 year old album because you want it to take you back to the time in your life when you discovered it, reminisce on the fun times you had while listening to it. You want it to sound the same as it did back then. The reissue of the album should be called “Dated As Hell, as no amount of 2010 digital gloss is going to win over new fans in today’s musical climate, not really digging glammed out power metal.
That being said, I could listen to Far Beyond Driven, Great Southern Trendkill, and Vulgar Display Of Power, in that order, all day long……………….
downloading would not be a problem if they would charge $5 dollars for new cds. fuckers cost nothing to make. used could be like $3 or less. these 1980s prices are what killed the music industry. fucking greed.
ps. hating any pantera cd (phil era) is like smacking god in the face. like getting breast reduction on some double d’s. like being born with 2 dicks and asking for one to be cut off b/c it “looks weird.” like trying to fuck your first cousin b/c your in west virginia and you thought it was okay there. like paying to be shit on. just uncool. Element, i’m gonna pray for you. we will pull through this together.
Will- You have two dicks? lol
1 Tick, 2 dicks
I don’t consider a re-release after 20 years much of a cash grab…as opposed to…White Pony?
I will be buying the re-issue because it will be rematsered. The original mastering is 20 years old and needs a fine upgrade. I have the album and I listen to all the time but I feel these re-issues will be for the hardcore fan, new ones, and for those who want to hear what the album could sound like if it was released today. The demo that was released does sound like their hair metal days and no wonder it didn’t make it on the album. As for these album becoming a way to make some cash all I can say is that Metal is still a young genre and all the old skool band will be re-issuing their albums and as fans it kind of makes us feel older. Pantera, Megadeth, and soon all of our fav metal bands will be re-issuing their catatlog’s.
Pantera’s entire catalogue is badass. they should also re-master/re-issue “Power metal”
Speaking of reissues, why the fuck is Clutch reissuing absolutely every fucking thing? Some stuff just came out 5 years ago, if not less. Love Clutch. Hate pointless reissues… hoping it’s some bullshit label thing.
I honestly love hearing re-mastered albums if the originals had shit sound. Recording technology advances for a reason……better sound. I also think a personal list of fave songs and/or albums adds no weight to an argument, because opinions aren’t fact. I also like long walks on he beach, and gunfire by the moonlight.
@will – Woo…you made it to the front page, bro!
@ Surly. they were desperate.
as for my rant, when i get tired, i get weird..er (haha)
