Sevendust Guitarist Lashes Out At Korn

Sevendust guitarist Clint Lowery recently lashed out at Korn and their decision to keep their touring guitarists segregated on stage. Speaking via his Twitter, Lowery asked:

“Why is Korn so scared to allow a new guitar player to play on stage. Are they scared they won’t be able to do they’re full 1998 rock moves?”

I don’t even see why they have a touring guitarist. Sevendust’s bassist doesn’t even play live….all of his bass tracks, a lot of drums, and ALL the vocals other than Lajon’s are pre-recorded. All bigger bands pull that crap, so they can put on their big money pop show without actually having to work at it.

    • ^dude… so true. I had to sit through linkin park and hollywood undead to wait for Tool last year… the drums, dj, keys, backing vocs… it was all totally sequenced on adat. lol at watching the drummer. all you can hear is his cymbals. then Tool gets on stage, plays 100% flawlessly without any of that bullshit.

The worst part is when we finally thought LP was done, chester brought out dead by sunrise. THE FUCKING SHIT I GO THROUGH TO SEE MY FAVORITE BANDS….

@veganbassist – Really? Sounds fishy. You have a source for this? I find it hard to believe all the bass tracks and back-up vocals are pre-recorded…

yea you are an idiot, sevendust plays everything live themselves and the bass player IS on the stage the entire time so i have no idea what band you saw. and as for LP, Chester is in love with autotune, the drummer sucks complete balls, and they should have stopped making music after meteora because Midnight was a TERRIBLE album and there new single is the worst song ive ever heard SERIOUSLY

    • Morgan Rose uses triggers on all his drums…. it turns the drum into a signal… then u can use the same snare sound you had on the record, and change the drum sound every song if you want to.

    • Not since Kurt Cobain, have I been this happy to find out a musician used triggers. No way Morgans drum kit sounded that “perfect” live……..

Yeah. Seriously, talk about exaggerating for a headline. Also, you people talking about bands using recorded tracks don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about.

And Korn are far from the first band to use a touring guitarist. I don’t get why anyone cares.

if anything is prerecorded its any samples ….cuz they play to a click track…

i think once i seen morgans voice was blown so he lip synced to that ….and that was one show out of the 300+ they do a year and have been doing for 10+ years…try that shit for one year and youd be exhausted bro!

      7d for life!

@Lern2Swim; it’s not the fact that Korn uses a touring guitarist, it’s that they practically hide them backstage during the show. Clint was their touring guitarist for a few years during his hiatus from Sevendust, so he’d know as good as anyone what it’s like to be in that position.

Obviously bands use touring musicians all the time – they just don’t treat them the way Korn does. However, you also can’t put them on promotional items and such just in case they do not become full-time members – I met Every Time I Die at Warped Tour, and their poster only has the 4 “full-time” members – I asked Jordan if Legs would be their full-time drummer, and he said he hoped so and that he loves having him play with the band – so I assume it’s Leg’s decision.

actually I’ve been a sound engineer before, and have known several others, and we see what’s played live and what’s not. Morgan plays his drums live, but he didn’t do any live vocals. Everything was synched to a click track. the bassist didn’t play at all, and it was obvious…he wasn’t even strumming the right patterns half the time.

the Birthday Massacre do the same thing. all the rhythm guitar parts, a lot of vocal harmonies, and the kick drum are all pre-recorded. Ra has pre-recorded vocal harmonies so the singer can match pitch perfectly. Marilyn Manson has a lot of pre-recorded vocal parts too. Seriously, way more bigger arena bands do stuff like this than what most people realize.

However, El Rov was right, Tool is 100% legit live, and they blow me away with how spot on perfect they do it.

I play in a band that uses what engineers and live sound guys call backing tracks and all we run through them is back harmonies and the occasional digital drum loop. But with that said, we have played with bands who have up to 6 guitars tracks running…you would be shocked how many upper level bands use this technique to thicken up there sound live. We just got signed to a label and were told this is becoming the norm…and i’m not talking about a little vox and sound effects…i’m talking about entire tracks being played behind the band. I’m not implying that i agree with this…just thought i would add to the convo…

@inexternal- was that english at the end there? not sure where you were going with that one.
Anyways, Clint was far from lashing out at korn he was just stating the obvious. they prolly dont wanna bring in a new guitarst for many reasons and one being that all the hardcore fans would be all angst on letting someone new in the band and calling it korn still because Welch was the first and their ‘image’ would change or some shit. Plus who else can get those damn good lookin 98′ rock moves down??

since clint toured with korn briefly I’m sure he’s seen firsthand how shitty they treat their expendable touring musicians. they probably don’t even talk to them and keep them segregated backstage as well… shit, they probably have mobile pagers like you get waiting for a table at a restaurant and just buzz them when it’s showtime.
