For as underwhelming as the song is, they sound and perform really well, especially for being almost 50.
TBS: Very Funny
look at the freeze frame, jonny d’s hairline is receding like a motherfucker, i see a weave in the near-future
I can’t believe i used to be literally obsessed with this band, I had adidas track suits and everything
Yeah the freeze frame looks like Devin Townsend with sideburns and a goatee.
random thought: is it me or do frozen microwavable pancakes kick the shit out of homemade ones
Back in the day when band frontman Jonathan Davis would erupt in a fit of cathartic wails it felt like Mescaline-fueled musical therapy. When he tries to recreate it here it sounds like struggling actors workshop. – Wook on Korn III review…. That describes this perfomance to a tee.
time for Jonathan Davis to let the hair go.
Comment on their performances, not JD’s hair.
Their performance is just like his hair. Both have been receding every album they release.
That new guitarist now knows how Newsted felt with …And Justice For All.
boy bands should be worried about their hair as should their fans. never understood why people would comment on chino’s weight too . like really? why the fuck would that matter…. as why the fuck does it matter that jon davis has a receeding hairline …… i mean we can blast the music all day but come on, stop letting the mtv influence show in your ideas…..
@smshn.com I’m 29 years old and MTV hasn’t been relevant in my life for at least 15 years. You sound like an elitist asshole, “It’s about the music maaaaaannnnnn” well the music also happens to suck, and for the record you look like the fat Chino you were talking about
@smshn.com I feel like an ass for personally attacking you, your holier than thou comment nonwithstanding, my comment was below the belt and I apologize, one too many pints of guinness. The fact of the matter is if Korn has become a parody of itself and the freeze frame of his hairline just happened to be hilarious. This is the theprp.com not (insert pretentious corporate news/music website here) we’re just having a little fun. It’s ok to have fun Mikal, we don’t have to be so serious all the time. That said sorry again
Considering JD’s age and previous heart conditions, I think his performance is pretty decent, although it hardly matches Korn’s energetic performances during the first three albums. I can see why the band gets so much hatred and bashing. The band’s current albums were hardly listenable(SYOTOS, Untitled), and they pretty much sucked throughout 2005~2009. But I think KoRn III is actually more than just a lousy/pathetic attempt to restore the energy and glory of their first two albums. I bought the CD and gave it a shot, and I’m pretty sure that this album is at least on the same level as Untouchables or Take a Look in the Mirror.
Loved Korn as a 16-18 year old, (Korn-Follow The Leader) , “Issues” had it’s moments, and “Untouchables” was Korn at it’s most creative (before you jump down my throat I said creative, not best) “Take A Look In The Mirror” was the closest thing to a “comeback” album they had, even going as far as stealing a part from “Need To”, for one of the songs. If they would have released that album as Korn III, I might be optimistic, but they took a step forward and then two steps back with the next two albums, the untitled one being an all-time low. To quote Roger Waters when he left Pink Floyd, Korn is “a spent force creatively”. The only thing that would pique my interest is if Head came back, if the last three albums prove anything it’s that Munky is a better sideman than anything, and Jon Davis can’t write a song for shit.
Even though I trash Korn, I was a huge fan and continued to buy/steal off the internet every Korn album and give them an honest listen hoping for the best. Here’s how they rank in my opinion, Life Is Peachy and Korn are classics, I still pop in Follow the Leader and TALITM from time to time, the rest maybe a song or two or three, except the untitled, worst shit ever
1. Life is Peachy
2. Korn
3. Follow The Leader
4. Take A Look In The Mirror
5. Untouchables
6. Issues
7. See You On The Other Side
8. Korn III: Remember Who You Are
9. Untitled
I agree with you about Untitled. It was shitty crap from the beginning to the end. But I personally think Korn III is at least better than See You on the Other Side. That album was no better than Untitled except for maybe one or two tracks.
1. Issues : love the interludes and clean guitar intros. Perfect record from start to finish (well no, Wake up still sucks !
)
2. Follow The Leader : kick-ass riffs. During those days, the band was in the zone, and it seemed they could become huge. For a short period of time, they made Metallica look like a bunch of old has-beens…
3. KoRn : creepy vibe, great riffs
4. Life Is Peachy (even creepier, but it lacks a few “hits”)
5. Untouchables (awesome production, but half the songs didn’t work for me. The band started to get self-indulgent)
6. TALITM : decent at best. It felt rushed and unfocused, but it still sounded like KoRn, despite the awful production, especially on drums
7. Untitled : quite awful, but Hold On and Starting over were OK
8. SYOTOS : I like 1 or 2 songs, and still love the 1st single. The rest of the album doesn’t even sound like KoRn
9. III : self-indulgent (especially on the vocals), and very generic. For the first time ever, koRn sounds like a washed-up band who has nothing more to say. Quite sad actually :/
@chtimixeur – Nice breakdown. My top 5 is the same as yours, just moved around.
1. KoRn – Can’t beat this. I was going to start listing the songs I love on this album, and I was putting down every single song. Top-notch. Time-warp to 14 years old.
2.Life Is Peachy – Lotta fun, same vibe as first. Chi, Lost, Good God, A.D.I.D.A.S. (despite its ridiculous advertising angle…), No Place To Hide.
2. (a tie!) Follow The Leader – KoRn 2.0 in my opinion. Sleeker sound. Just as good and memorable songs as Peachy, if not more.
4. Issues – Trash… is the highlight tune for me on this one. I liked this album, but this was the beginning of the end.
5. Untouchables – Thoughtless was good… I read the rest of the song titles and can’t remember what the hell they sounded like. Last album I bought, and honestly, I should have avoided it.
I gave a few very brief listens to Take A Look In The Mirror, went “meh…” and haven’t bothered with them since. Any singles of the past 8 years haven’t hooked me, and to me, they’re done.
Time to hang up the tracksuit.
Here’s my breakdown of all Korn’s albums:
1. They all sound dated.
1. Issues
2. Follow the Leader
3. Korn
4. Untouchables
5. Life is Peachy
6-9. All the other crap.
Clint Lowery’s twitter: Why is Korn so scared to allow a new guitar player to play on stage. Are they scared they won’t be able to do they’re full 1998 rock moves?
2:05 PM Aug 25th via Echofon
fuck Korn…. right in their Kornholes. ha ha, get it? cuz theyre Korn, with a K. by the way, if you still listen to Korn, goth 6th graders in 1996 called… they want their taste in music back.
they arent what they use to be, but ill still respect them and give there new stuff a chance.
@mjclementz – Issues, really?… Why? I mean better than the self-titled? I don’t get it. Explain yourself!!! Heh.
i wish i could just sit down with them and tell them hey write this, maybe a concept album, something relateable to like what johnny d went through as a teen reject his lyrics a million times till it sounds personal and not forced, get a real guitarest in to add a solo or 2 with that korn sound (have they ever had a solo in a song?) tell fieldy to stop having fun (dont get me wrong hes a sick bass player) and start adding some solid lines instead of ALL slap bass have a lil outside influence come on a cd that is currently relivent say someone from dillinger escape maybe and really sit down and focus before jamming. they are still really cool in one way but completly irrellivent and unfocused on the music aspect they love jamming but never let a guitar play a good role in the music. just someone let me help and we could give um one more to retire on! by the way have the drums ever sounded bad? i always thought they where alright
I would like to sit them down and tell them their career was over 8 years ago.
