Kingdom Of Sorrow Guitarist To Miss “Ozzfest” Dates, Type O Negative Guitarist To Fill In
Kingdom Of Sorrow will be short guitarist Kirk Windstein for their upcoming Ozzfest run as a result of Windstein (also of Down/Crowbar) entering Alcoholics Anonymous. He will be replaced by Kenny Hickey of Type O Negative fame at the shows.
Speaking on his decision to step down, Windstein offered the following:
“I have entered the AA program and am turning over a new leaf. 25 years of gigging and touring has taken its toll and my drinking is now preventing me from being the healthiest, best player that I can be. It’s been a fun ride, but I’m ready to tackle this sober and look forward to being at the top of my game with all of my projects! I am happy to say that Kenny Hickey will once again be filling my spot for these eight shows. Thanks, Kenny; I love you bro!!!
Thanks to everyone for their support.”
Meanwhile, Kingdom Of Sorrow bandmate Jamey Jasta (also of Hatebreed) offered the following on the situation:
“The road is no place for Kirk right now. He has begun to address his problems so he can lead a happy and healthy life and continue to rock with DOWN, CROWBAR and KINGDOM OF SORROW. I only want the best for him and I feel like sitting this tour out is a step in the right path.”

Jesus, this is fucking TERRIBLE news. He sings on half the new shit.
Good luck in the aa kirk, but i agree with cma3585. Whats KOS gonna sound like live now? Can kenny’s voice make up for this loss? I dought it! Or someone else will sing half the songs? Who? Gonna miss ur ugly mug and voice on stage kirk, But the first time to see KOS live I will be there.
dude if he is going off tour to submit himself to AA then he is one of the strongest individuals i know!
props man!
good luck!
i would add though KOS should just cancel …but they need money im sure
oh well
it’s not exactly anonymous now
lol @ wyld . I dont see how this is gonna work properly live, but I cant shit on kirk
for this. Hopefully he’s back soon. I’d love to hear some new Down too!
Yeah Kirk does more than half the singing. As much as I love KOS I wouldn’t care to see ‘em without Kirk. Just not the same band without him. You can’t duplicate his vocals. At least he’s taking care of what he needs to. Always tons of respect for the man.
Imagine being in an AA meeting, and sitting next to you is the guy who sings Obedience Thru Suffering.
