DragonForce To Release New Live Album In September
DragonForce will be releasing a 2xCD live album dubbed “Twilight Dementia” through Roadrunner on September 14th. The effort was recorded across 19 UK shows of the bands “Ultra Beatdown Tour“. It also sports production from Karl Groom along with band guitarists Herman Li and Sam Totman. Speaking on the set, Li offered the following:
“For years, fans have been asking us to record a live album, but honestly, we never really had the time due to our worldwide touring commitments and studio album recording. However, due to the overwhelmingly positive feedback from fans on the ‘Ultra Beatdown World Tour,’ we decided to finally put some real thought into it.”
The idea was to record every single show from the last leg of the tour, so we could pick the best take of each song without needing to do any overdubs in the studio; keeping the whole thing live, like all the classic live metal albums. These recordings really capture the raw sonic energy of a DragonForce show in fine detail. It is so real that you can hear the noise of the crowd and experience the show as it was that night – you can even hear the guitar pedals being stepped on!”

COMMENTS
I’ve always been somewhat on the fence with this band, but I certainly am leaning towards the “fucking sweet” side of said fence. The instrumentals alone make for a pretty awe-inspired listen, and the vocals just take a bit of getting used to. I saw them live on the inaugural Mayhem run and was impressed that they could keep up with the speed on the records. Continuing with this long-winded thought, I thought Inhuman Rampage was a step in the right direction (Operation Deathsquad RULES) whereas Ultra Beatdown was a step back. Even the title was just fucking ridiculous. Even for this band. Where was I going with this…? Oh yeah, I will listen to this album. It may not suck!
