Ronnie James Dio Not Dead, Despite Rumors (Updated)

Reports began to circulate online late Saturday, May 16th, that Ronnie James Dio of Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Heaven & Hell, etc. fame had passed away at the age of 67. Most recently Dio has been battling stomach cancer, undergoing numerous bouts of chemo for it.

Despite these reports, Dio, while in poor health, is still alive according to his wife and manager, Wendy Dio. She recently took to Dio‘s official Twitter account with the following message:

“”Don’t believe the rumors, Ronnie is still hanging in there!!!” Hugs, Wendy Dio”

His worsening health in recent months forced Heaven & Hell to recently cancel their summer touring plans.

Caught in the confusion of the news spreading throughout Twitter, various rock luminaries began posting tributes to Dio. Some of which are featured below:

Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine):

“Rip Ronnie James Dio. One of rock’s greatest singers. Cranking Mob Rules in his memory. Thanks Ronnie for rocking me like crazy.”

Mick Mars (Motley Crue):

“R.I.P. Ronnie James Dio. You will be sorely missed. You’ll always live on through the years of music you have given to us all.”

In all honesty, the only album he ever made that I really loved was Holy Diver, but that song itself is one of the greatest songs of all time to me, and every time I hear it, it brings me back to when I was about seven or eight years old when I first heard it, and it was the darkest and most evil song. I respect his entire career and everything that he did, a gigantic influence to the world of metal. It’s always a sad day when our family and the world loses somebody like Dio. He was at it for damn near fifty years. Unreal. RIP.

And yes, I just caught the news that he’s actually still alive, but I’m sure it’s only a matter of time unfortunately. My sentiments remain the same.

So when did proclaiming people’s deaths before getting facts become so fashionable?
Glad to hear he’s still alive, although like BCGuy said…it’s probably only a matter of time. Best wishes for RJD tho.

I would like a new Black Sabbath album by the four original dudes before one of them dies no matter how shitty or how awesome; Dio’s death would have meant nothing except to Jack Black & Kyle. That would be a hard day for Kyle, a dead Dio; I’m not sure if Kyle would have enough cock pushups in his crotch to save his soul; let alone a sequel to their movie that completely sucked. A Tenacious D movie should have made the Blues Brothers look amateurish.

      Between the velvet lies
      There’s a truth that’s hard as steel
      The vision never dies
      Life’s a never ending wheel…………

It’s official. According to his wife he passed away at 7:45 this Sunday morning. Glad I got to see him live a few years ago. What a performer! You will be missed Ronnie. Rest In Peace Ol’ Boy.
