i loved the track until that guy started singing. fuck choruses. good band actually, but a little too cheesy here and there. still, one of the metalcore-leftovers i mostly enjoy listening to.
Austrian Death Machine >>> As I Lay Dying. Way too predictable, and the singing parts sound like a bad Saosin clone, and I can’t stand Saosin. The singing has been garbage since they changed bassists. Instrumentally As I Lay Dying are very talented, I just wish they’d stop writing the same album over and over.
I enjoyed the track, and I liked An Ocean Between Us the best of their albums so far. I’ve never been really big into metalcore, melodic or otherwise. but I have enjoyed AILD’s output to date.
The problem with AILD is that they are still considered one of the front-runners for metalcore, and because of this, their recording label will demand similar sounding albums until the style goes completely belly-up. I know most of us would prefer to see bands tell recording companies to screw off when they are asked to give up artistic integrity for the almighty dollar, but if you have mouths to feed at home, it’s unfortunately not easy to do that.
i always liked the singing parts… especially on their last album — example: “Wrath Upon Ourselves”; great singing part to that song. to me it just helps break up the monotony of constant screaming, which is starting to get old after hearing it for years and years and years. not that tim’s is bad, i’m just so tired of metalcore as a genre, it’s time for something fresh. all of the good bands have broken up: the agony scene, SWIFT, the red death, nothingface, the knife trade, hopesfall, dry kill logic, ultraspank, element eighty… many more have gone on to suck after losing a member, etc. the most influential albums at the time they came out where i went “wow, this is awesome… music is going somewhere” was korn – self titled (1994), at the gates – slaughter of the soul (1995), slipknot – self titled (1999), TOOL – lateralus (2001), the black dahlia murder – unhallowed (2003)… since then, i have hardly found any album that has really impressed me. that’s all personal opinion though. anyways, i’ll be picking up the new AILD anyway, i’ve always liked them.
Sounds good to me.
Listen to “Frail Words Collapse”, arguably their best album to date. All it had was screaming, that to me is AILD. Even on “Shadows Are Securty” the singing was few and far between and only on the songs that it actually worked on. Now it’s every goddamn song, and every song I hear from theirs when it gets to that same typical chorus hook lumps them in with every other mediocre metalcore band out right now. The brutality is gone. The ferocity is gone. All they’re left with is the same typical bullshit and a completely un-engaging listen. I used to have a lot of respect for Adam D but I’m wondering if because Killswitch Engage has hit the bottom and writes completely unentertaining bullshit, he’s on a mission to turn every band he records into one as shitty, lifeless and predictable as his has become. All we can expect from Killswitch and AILD is one or two decent songs per CD and a whole lot of fluffy, boring ass filler.
@Rx: couldn’t disagree with you more. “Frail Words Collapse” was a terrible album. Sloppy, boring, predictable breakdown after breakdown and just followed the trends. I think they are now much more coming into their own as just a metal band, and not so damn trendy anymore.
I really like the song except for the vocals. Terrible.
How the hell do you lump Nothingface into the “metalcore” category? Holy shit, that’s blasphemy.
Oh…I just read further…
Please continue.
