Type O Negative Frontman Peter Steele Dead At 48 (Updated)
Rumors began swirling earlier tonight that Type O Negative frontman Peter Steele (born Petrus T. Ratajczyk) passed away earlier today, April 14th, 2010, reportedly of heart failure at the age of 48. Those rumors have now been confirmed.
Fuse VJ Juliya ‘Mistress Juliya’ Chernetsky originally confirmed the news via Steele’s Type O Negative band mate, Kenny Hickey, which she revealed the via her Twitter account.
Radio personality Full Metal Jackie has also confirmed the news via her Twitter account as well.
In turn, tributes from friends, family and fans have begun to emerge online, including the following from Biohazard, etc. frontman Evan Seinfeld:
“R.I.P my friend, brother, and mentor, Peter Steele, Type-O-Negative, Carnivore….my single biggest musical influence… who named Biohazard…
I fucking miss you so much already,… I love you Brother, I hope you are in a better place.”

I’ve loved Type O Negative since I was 13. Peter had such a unique voice and a brilliantly dark sense of humor. Things will never be the same without hom around.

It was pretty common knowledge that Pete liked his Cocaine. Not exactly the greatest drug to be doing when you’re 48. I also read from a pretty reliable source that he was sick for weeks leading up to this.
