Former Refused Frontman Dispels Reunion Rumors

Buddyhead have word from ex-Refused frontman Dennis Lyxzén that the band will in fact not be reforming. You can read what he had to say here. Rumors erupted over the weekend that the band would be reuniting following the launch of a new teaser website at www.officialrefused.com.

However, as expected, the site looks to merely be a teaser for an upcoming reissue of the bands 1998 outing, “The Shape Of Punk To Come“, which Epitaph is tentatively preparing for a May release date.

Well…at least we will always have “The Shape of Punk to Come.” Sadly enough…that shape never formed for the most part…it just turned into poppy bullshit. Now bands like Poison the Well and Thrice on the other hand…obviously took notice. Not comparing the three at all, but there’s definitely some influences in there.

I can’t find any connection between Poison the Well and Refused. PTW was bad as fuck around the same time, and have blossomed all on their own. I don’t know how you can find any Refused influence in them. Rites of Spring maybe, or old school Metallica, but not really Refused.

And Thrice would be doing a smart thing taking a few tricks from Refused’s bag, considering they’ve released pretty disappointing music for the past few years. Again, I’d still credit their good sound to Metallica more than Refused.

Thrice have never been dissapointing as far as I am concerned. As far as PTW goes “Versions” and “The Tropic Rot” definitely have Refused influence in there. It’s subtle, but it’s there. Why “The Tropic Rot” was PTW’s worst selling album I will never know.

Thrice has done what everyone should do. Grow up and/or evolve. They’re what the french call “a complete fucking band”. You all should be slapped in your vaginas for mentioning them with these other two bands. And to say they are anything less than stellar is to admit you are still masturbating to still photos. Get with the times, man!

I don’t understand how anyone could NOT hear the Refused influence on “You Come Before You” considering they went out to Sweden to record the album with Eskil Lövström and Pelle Henricsson. You know. 2 of the dudes that produced “The Shape Of Punk To Come”. It’s pretty obvious they’re influenced by that album.

    • yeah i was thinking the same thing dexter. I always heard some influence of Refused on Blood Brothers “burn piano island burn”, that album still rocks my socks off til this day. Refused were a great band but did anyone watch their dvd that was released a few years ago. The live performances were sick but their documentary segments were funny as hell. They acted as if it was such a great pain to be in the band. They were miserable lads that had so much talent but would rather be grieving over their infatuation with…..fuck if I know, I actually never understood their reasons for their grief.

captain nemo you should be slapped just for the hell of it…i mentioned them with these other two bands because all of them have a similar quality to them. not saying they rip each other off, far from it. don’t like it? deal with it.
