yessssssss they;re 4th generic metalcore album in a row! so not stoked.
This is on my top 10 list of albums that I wish wouldn’t be released this year. Or ever.
I actually like their albums. They combined their influences to create their own style. Don’t blame them now for the gazillions of shitty bands that rip them off. Hitchcock’s Psycho spawned a whole genre of shitty movies, but it’s still a classic.
Metalcore is nu-metal, just a different place in time. In a couple years we’ll all be looking back and making fun of this shit. It’s okay if you like it now, shit I listened to plenty of nu-metal bands, but now I look back and realize that it was corny. Just as metalcore is now. If it is As I Lay Dying that everyone is ripping off, then now I know who to blame for this mess.
And now they are making the Psycho remake.
@buttcrackguy – I largely agree; metalcore’s current popularity does mirror the nu-metal explosion in years past. And as with nu-metal, most of the bands in this trend are boring, corny, or mediocre at best. I do not consider myself a metalcore fan in any significant way. But nevertheless, as with nu-metal, there are a few standout acts that are talented and influential enough to merit sustained attention. For me, AILD is one of them, that’s all.
I’m pretty down with As I Lay Dying as well. Have been since I discovered Austrian Death Machine. Before that though, they blended too much with all the other crap for me to even pay attention.
I liked Austrian Death Machine, I’ve tried to get into AILD but it’s not my thing. I just think that a lot of these metalcore-type bands need to start evolving a little more before they get left behind when the next big thing comes along. When this new album comes out I will naturally give it a listen, hopefully for everyone’s sake it’s not the same album they already released 3 or 4 times before.
the best metalcore bands have evolved; those who helped create the genre and mak it popular have become more metal, less core.
I have always wondered why there is a double standard when it comes to different genre’s evolving…a metal core band evolves and the posts are flattering yet when a metal band strays even a HINT away from their roots….watch out! The posts fly in by the minute about how much they suck and sold out? Am i missing something here?
Love this band, looking forward to this album.
